Hi all, got shampoo/polish/sealant from cleanyourcar, funds were tight so couldn't get anything else for the time being and I need to clean my wheels! Obviously I could just use the shampoo + some rags with elbow grease or should I really go and purchase some alloy cleaner?

don't need it tbh, i would recomend the stuff you put on once there clean though. can't rember what its called lol but you slap it on once there washed and then when they get flirty of brake dust etc. only need the once over... Great stuff imo..

ahh wheel sheild! :)

Anywhere sell that in shop (supermarket equivilent or halfrauds etc?) as wanted to sort the car out tomorrow, will be buying some more stuff from CYC (awesome service btw!) next week anyway so hopefully won't matter if I can't get any

I always use a degreaser like CG Citrus which soaks on and shifts most of the cack making wheels much easier to clean and keep marks and anything else to a minimum.

Meg's APC and something like a general degreaser...

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/chemical-guys-strong-wash-bug-bugger-/prod_183.html

Made up to a strong solution, depending on how much grime there is on your alloys.

A bit of AutoGlym's SRP also adds shine/gloss and wheel sealant is a must.
Makes cleaning a doddle and brake dust wipes off after a couple of layers...

I use AG Wheel Cleaner - works a treat, bit of elbow grease obviously but worth it when you see the results :)

Good bit of advice there. :y:

You can pick up APC from Tesco's that does the job fine for like 80p. It's called Daisy I think.
And a degreaser wont be too hard to come by either.

As Red said, this should clean up the majority of gunk from your wheels, but if your alloys have yellowing spots and brake dust, you will need to get a dedicated wheel cleaner to shift it.

And I second the wheel sealant... If your low on funds, scrape some together to get PB Wheel Sealant definitely :y:
Put the elbow grease in first, then apply and smile next time you clean them and the muck just comes straight off with your normal car shampoo.

:D Well it's the first time i'm going to be washing my car properly, got a mitt, using 2 bucket method etc etc

Normally just used a sponge + 1 bucket, never thought it would be a problem until I started reading here/CYC forums! :fcuk:

Really looking forward to seeing the results :y: Although I wish I'd spent a bit more and bought a clay bar, but will save that for next time! ;)

i use an all purpose degreaser, the poorboys is really good spray it on leave for a few minutes and then use this brush to clean them, also do the tyres with this degreaser, and depending on your alloys you may need a different brush to get in awkward places

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels-and-tyres/ez-detail-brush/prod_480.html

after finished a coat of wheel sealent, again poorboys is great :y: and finish

havnt read any of the replies as i cant be arsed. lol

what ive done is few months ago, took the whees off, used some strong wheel cleaner all over the wheels, get all the dirt off. then i used my poorboys (think its PB) wheel sealant on.

last time i washed the car, it had a few months worth of shit on the wheels, so just sprayed them with autoglym clean wheels and wiped down with my wheel dedicated wash mitt and hosed down

nice and easy :y:

Managed to pick up some Simoniz wheel cleaner from Tesco, no idea if it's good but it should do the job for now, says its a degreaser too, looks thick like gel ;o

No sealant though, but that will be bought soon anyway! Thanks for the advice and links guys :y: Hope the weather holds up at least tomorrow :(
