hello, basically, got my saxo handed down off my sister lol.. its not that fit and i dont wanna spend loads on it, but the standard speakers in there currently are a bit poo really.. pretty much no bass at all

problem is i dont want to fit a sub, i'm definately not going for 6x9's after everything i read on here about how bad they are.

im a complete noob at anything car wise so dont really wanna be reconstructing door for component tweeters either,

i think i might just take the easy way out and go coax although i want to get a good quality sound, so is there anyway i can go coax and get a brand new head unit, that will sound alright, preferably without the use of an additional amp and no sub woofer.

any idea anyone?

thanks

I have co-axials - they are Sony Xplod 140w and are very good quality, without an amp. No 6x9s either, just the co-ax in front.

and do you find that they can handle the bass and treble equally well?.. and can you get good volume before distortion mate?

i will only go for a reputable brand, but i was thinking more in terms of models?.. my mates got pioneer and it looks fit and sounds decent, but he only has cd cant really tell if their models with usb and aux are any good

Whats your budget for head unit and speakers?

Definitely DONT get coaxials if you are after a good sound with a decent amount of bass!

They simply wont cut it!

And dont worry about installing them. Its a piece of cake. All that the tweeters require is a 50mm hole in the door card.

Heres mine...

headunit wont really affect sounds of speakers.. most are the same power wise

but yeah coaxials could be ok for a simple swap, depending on your budget, pioneer do decent coax for £20, they dont handle bass great, but mids and highs arent too bad

at the other end of the market, hertz do some coaxials too

sorry to start two threads btw, uh yeah well i found these but tbh i got no idea if they are any good, i mean i dont mind spending up to about £50/60 on a pair of coax cos they dont seem to be that costy, so im thinking if i have to go for a bit more costy ones to get the quality then i will, but if they still wont cut a component by miles than maybe thats possible . im looking for a decent head unit with cd, usb, aux in.. not bothered about bluetooth really.. any ideas?.. probs spend about i dunno £150 ish on the both, is that reasonable?

why not?
i have heard some co-ax speakers that have put some components to shame.. the better ones should come with a crossover aswell.

i'm so stuck lol, i mean the componenets dont sound toooo hard to install, however i aint ever even taken a door card off let alone dcut holes in it and wired up speakers lol.. and that head unit was nice but i little too much, what kind of stuff should i look for when im buying head unit and speakers?.. is there certain things to be careful of etc.?

To be fair mate, the majority of coaxials out there will not out-perform a set of components.

You really will struggle to lift the sound stage with coaxials.

I suppose we need to know his budget really...

At a guess i'd say he has about 50-80 quid to spend.

Therefore you really cant go wrong with the hertz comps, or the spl dynamics comps.:y:

Thats my opinion anyway. Everyones ears are different though...

lol door card just comes off in about 2 seconds.. undo to screws and unclip it all..

drilling holes is no hardship, mark out where you want um and drill.. 5 min job :y:

as coonper said, im agreed with components being your best option, i hav had coax and they just distort a hell of a lot with a slight bit of bass, i think unless you wanted to spend a lot on them they wouldnt be worth it

for a headunit id reccommend one with 2 phono outputs.. that means you can connect two amps to it later if required
