Would be asking the question about the 3 owners but if its been fixed should be fine.

Cat d is only minor stuff anyway

Pat_Vts
15th June 2008, 21:14
well, one had it... crash happend in 2003 when it was brand new tbh

sold it and someone else fixed it, insurance didnt fix it...

sold to one of my friends... hes the third owner... and i will be the fourth if i get it

im offering 2500, is this fair? oringally it was for 3k until i found out cat d and he bought for 2k...

Amiee

Yeh Would consider it tbh

Cat D could be a a slight prang, and insurance just thinks it will cost to much to fix so the owner gets it done privately..

I'd ask to see why its been declared a CatD to be honest - my response depends on the reason for the write off....

Pat_Vts
15th June 2008, 21:16
he didnt know it was cat d until i found out via a text service which you text and it replies cat d etc

Pat_Vts
15th June 2008, 21:20
yeah... i love the vts and everything about it apart from cat d... iv offered 2500... hope to god he takes it... if he does

is it a bargain or not?

Mr_X
15th June 2008, 21:24
hmm, i would be very careful. i would touch one, but if they have pic's etc of what happened then it could be ok if its very minor. but as has been said the re-sale value will be very low.

i would be surprised if he doesn't accept that, i would have offered lower tbh, altho it is 03.
i bought my vts for 2k with 28-30k on the clock. in perfect nick fsh etc etc. year 2002

Also, on the internet there is a vid of 2 cars crashing, one being normal and the other being accident repaired, shocking tbh.

remember, Cat D on a new car will differ to cat D on a 10 year old car.

Find out what was damaged and look very carefully around that area. If all looks ok then go for it.

I wouldn't be put off by cat D or cat C cars if the repair work had been carried out to a high enough standard

Well put it this way, my car is going to be a Cat-D and i will be gettin it repaired, i had a minor bumb at 20mph and caused this...

Just panel damage apart from the broken steering rack, nothing MAJOR at all

Just find out what happend in the crash imo i would buy a Cat-D as i will be driving one, liek already said, Cat-D is only minor damage, if it was say a Cat-C i would be put off abit hope this helps a little :y:

15th June 2008, 21:51
as long as it has been repaired properly then it wouldnt put me off. just take longer than usual to look around the car from every possible angle to check for any damage.

get under the car if you can.

dan1800
15th June 2008, 22:09
most damage for a cat d would look worse than what it is then i guess. its still safe to be on the road and is usually panel damage?

15th June 2008, 23:50
cat d is nothing mate i would get one these days bodyshops have to get everything new and it costs soo much new stuff paint and labour the insurance just write the car off for its value cat d should onlly be minor like a dented wing etc

Pat_Vts
16th June 2008, 00:24
fair enough and raised my offer slightly based on what you all have said and how much i want the vts

Tupps
16th June 2008, 08:13
Seems a decent price if it's only cat D mate

1 in 4 cars are apparently cat D anyway.... and half the people don't even know it

If he paid 2k for it why are you offering 2.5k?

What does parkers give for the value of a clean one?

FRATEone
16th June 2008, 11:12
Yes just get it , what are chances you are in a full head on collision in your car anyway?
Fifth gear shows what could happen if you hit smack bang in the middle head on .

206 GTi are nice to look at...heard they handle pretty poorly though...

Astra 2.2 SRI....look ok...seem very heavy imo

id of thought as a Cat D it'd be worth probably 2200 or less perhaps.

Scary to think that was @20mph... 10-20mph more could be life or death

i bought my car as a cat c, repaired it, did a proper job and its just as good as any undamaged car out there, you've just got to ask what the damage was, who repaired it, check vin numbers etc.

Reason mine was a Cat c was purely because a chassis leg was bent, rest was jsut a new rad and panel parts. Looking in the bay now you wouldn't tell there had been any damage.

I got my car as a cat d, was damage to the front as it didn't have a front bumper but had a bit of a bent bumper. Have just fitted a new front bumper and bonnet and you wouldn't ever tell that it had been in an accident. Decent car for a snip of the price

Raz

Listen. lol wait dont rush off and buy the first car you see, you probably dont want to hear its bad but come on its cat d..

I bought my paxo and found it was cat D and it was fekd, couldnt tell according to three mechanics but it was a state to drive in the end. So jamie spent shit loads repairing it.

Do not do something you will end up regretting, ever heard the saying dont buy someone elses troubles?

It would have to be completely rebuilt by a citroen specialist to ever get in my hands.

Just my strong opinion mate lol

Pat_Vts
16th June 2008, 15:21
its not a trouble for him... i know him... and hes using the vts at the moment and is drivin it to my house on saturday

iv driven the vts... honestly can say cant find a fault with it, only that under the bonnet the thing to keep bonnet open is missing?...

plus it was in 03... when it was brand new so it must have been fixed properly back then due to value of it back then

Pat_Vts
16th June 2008, 15:33

Pat_Vts
16th June 2008, 15:47

16th June 2008, 16:04
My 206 was cat d repaired great had loads of modifications and extra's was decent milage for year good condition inside and out, i only got £1800 for it and it took 7 bloody months to sell it on! no one wanted to know when i was selling it but i would personally buy a cat d car myself as i did and it gave me a years hassle free driving
