Hi guys, looking at getting a vtr asap and went to look at one at a local garage today. its a y reg mk2 vtr done 65,000 miles

All round it looks to be in great condition - completely standard apart from an induction kit - possibly old style pipercross (foam).

2 things i want to ask about

When you remove the oil filler cap there is a very small amount of milky white substance on the cap and on top of the oil - the oil has just been changed before being put on the forecourt. I know this is water or coolant in the oil but ive been told it could be just due to the car being used for very short stop start journeys where the engine doesnt have chance to burn any condensation off and the condensatipon is settling on the oil and that taking it for a good blast will sort it out / burn it off - i also know that it could be a faulty head gasket or cracked block. has anyone else had this problem and what was the most common cause?

Also when you start and run the engine there is a strange whining noise like a belt going round but its coming from centre bottom of engine bay (almost below where the air filter is at the right hand end of the engine) the noise increases and decreases with engine speed.

I havent driven it yet - might be going back tomorrow - or should i avoid it altogether??

Grateful for any suggestions / advice

Cheers

Owen

hi there welcome to saxperiance

the first question is possibly true but i would leave it running for as long as possible to see if it over heats or any smoke

the second question could be many things

it could be a tensioner thats worn or it could be an over tightened belt etc
my car does the same noise but its a tensioner thats worn

cheap enough to sort

thanks for the quick reply.

think i'll go back for a test drive tomorrow to see how it feels - the only other thing thats not so easy to sort is the pedals are quite close together - i end up pressing all three at once with my big feet lol

garage is offering 3 months warranty if i pay advertised price or no warranty with a discount of about £200. its up for £2995

cheers
