Hi guys, some of you may know, not many as i havn't really mentioned it, that i have a operation on the 15th July... For my hernia.
Anyone else had one? I'm thinking of putting it off, and going at a different time tbh... Due to debts etc i really need to be in work, and i'm not guarenteed a job after the 2 weeks off i have to have - I can't do nothing...
If i put it off, i should get taken on full time in my job... so should defo be in work when i come back out of it.
Can be up to 2-4 weeks off work, which will kill me, no money wise, sick pay they need to keep me on at work for the Agency to give me the £16 a day sick pay..

Not sure where yours was?
But mines in my groin... 1 day operation, be in hosp 7am i think it is, out before end of day, if op goes well, then 2 weeks off work..Minimum..
Hernias can hurt, painfull to walk etc, i've not got to that stage atm, hence maybe putting it off a bit longer... Already put it off once and had to wait another 2 months.. And i'm still ok.

Hernias are very common mate. I would definitely get it sorted asap though.
You can sort debt out at a later date. Your health should always come first.

It could mean losing full time work aswell remember... Which, it took me ages to actually get into work when i lost my old job.
Need to think about it all tbh.

Have you not got any insurance cover for lost earnings or anything like that?

Yeah mine was groin too, did it playing football, i didn't know what it was at first so i carried on playing for a month  Then it did start to hurt while walking etc. The earlier you get it done, the better it is, you'll probably only have keyhole surgery, in which case, you could be back at work after a couple of days depending what you do for a living. I on the other hand wasn't so fortunate and had the big operation, they told me to take 6 weeks off work but like yourself couldn't afford that much time off and pushed myself to go back after 2 weeks. Get it done ASAP mate! :y:

Why would they get rid of you if you're having an essential operation???
You will be housebound for about a week with a heria repair but if there is some work you can do without lifting/pulling etc you could prob go back after a week if it's that bad a situation. Have a word with your employers and explain the situation to them. THey should be understanding

Health first I agree..
You can always find another job and you might have to wait wuite a while for the next op date?

sorry mate but you sound stupid, stuff the work and debt and sort your health out.. otherwise in the long and shortterm you may become more ill and never get to pay debts back and you may never be fit to see daylight :y:
sorry to be harsh but defonatly get it done asap.
wishing you luck Jim :)

Can they sack you for illness? How long have you been there?
Surely you have something in your contract.

There shouldnt be anythink to think about as you need to get it sorted out as it will only get worse if you dont.I had one when i was little and it wasnt that bad after the op.Just get the op done as soon as you can,and hope you have still got a job to go back to after.
Good luck with it all,im sure it will work out all ok.

Mate, get it done while you can. If you put it off you will wish you had done it sooner!
My dad and my best mate had their hernias removed and it knocked them out ill not kid ya, but your better off in the long run.
Just think. No work = xbox, jeremy kyle, internet, porn, films, eating shit (not literally), laid up, smacked up on painkillers.
Whatever you do though, act like a smack head in the hospital and demand injectable morphine! You wont regret it. Think post sex............
Also if they sack you for being off work for being incapacitated thats a straight up law suit for unfair dismissal. Check it out if you dont beleive me.
Vidal, back me the fuck up...............

I just hate being off doing fuck all, i hate doing nothing, call me weird... I think if i lose my job, i'd say it was very unfair, as i never planned to get a Hernia.
I will look up about the law suit for Unfair Dismissal...
Cheers pal.

Clearly should have the op mate, health first n all that.
Plus do you really want to work for an employer that will not garentee your job if you need to have an essential operation...

Get the op done mate.
If you leave it ... more time off work.
Dont think they can sack you ... its not like you did it yourself, or tht your just not going to work.

End of the day it gives me money to pay insurance etc and for me to live so yeah i do wanna work, not really wanna work for them but like i say it's money.

No, i'm at work at the moment, if i leave it, i carry on working paying off the little debt i've got so when i go for it again, i'll be debt free... In a way not needing to worry as much about if they carry on my employment.
I think i'll just have it done, if i lose work i lose work, hopefully agency will put me back in work straight away.
Cheers for replies people... Just need to think of the whole situation with money etc.
