Bit of a performance query really and as its not a saxo i thought i'd ask here. I have the 1.2 16v twinport model and its 79bhp standard does anyone know much about the engines?
I was asking on Corsa C Forum to see what would be needed for it to see 100bhp and they reckoned for it to reach 100bhp it would need headwork crazy cams, decat, SS exhaust, new inlet, enclosed induction, cyclinder work and a remap for it to have a gain of 21bhp! surely thats not right?
Costing well over £2k easily!!
Apparently it wouldnt have much torque either. I just thought these figures were a bit odd.
Discuss!!

There great little cars, handle nice, nippy, got all the nice little bits like elec mirrors, windows, central locking, deadlocking, sports seats, sports suspension, its a great car tbh i love it!
Back to the point of the performance!

That is an awful lot of work for only 21bhp. Try and find out what gains people have gotten from breather mods and possibly a remap. Then just go from there if you really want 100 ponies I guess
mattchewone
18th June 2008, 22:42
Yer but your vts is a 1.6 so not comparasible! Compare it to an equal model saxo and its miles better. Plus better build quality! Its all down to personal opinion tbh.
Back on the right lines does that seem right to get 21bhp??

Just want to see what it would take tbh. I mean its got 79ish which is about the same as the furio although the corsa is probably alot heavier just wanted to see what it would take to improve bhp and torque!

It's only a 1.2 remember, to make 79bhp it'll be worked pretty hard. 80bhp from 1.2 is 67bhp/litre, same as 107.2 out of a 1.6 so not too shy. why do you want 100bhp? you can get more than that out of the 1.4 as standard, should have bought the right car to start with really...

pointless mate trying to improve torque save money and buy saxo vts ftw

vts = money into a drain tbh lol.
Not saying i want to do anything to it i just want to know what would be needed to be done.

You can always do what most of the corsa drivers around my area do and that is turn on those fog lights. That is at least 20bhp, then your only 1bhp away from 100 ;)

In general saxos tend to cost a fair amount to run and they arent built that great from my experience. Plus VTS tax is ridiculous and fuel is stupid which is why i wanted a 1.2. Just curious as to what would be needed to improve performance not that im that bothered its pretty nippy and just runs awesome!

Oh yer sorry ill turn them on next time i "roll up" at some lights and i can then race of the line much faster "coz 'avin the foggies on" makes the car rocket along!

Haha thats the spirit.
But in all seriousness, most cars get good gains from an enclosed air filter so maybe invest in one of those pal. That will certainly make it more responsive. Also set about getting a nice exhaust system, nothing over the top but something nice and suttle which will suit the car. That will certainly free up a few ponies :)

Not worth it for me tbh. I go to and from work mon - fri which is like a 5min drive and then weekends might pop down to brighton or something occasionally so car isnt actually used that much so the 1.2 works out much better on tax and fuel!

I want to get a green panel filter to stay in the standard air box and move the air intake to allow more air flow. Then i want a nice smallish oval exhaust as they look mint!!

Personal preference and opinion tbh.
Yer just though it was alot of work for silly small figures. Looks like a backbox and panel filter is the way forward.

Its only cost effective to limited mods to a 1.2!
Best bang per £££ would be NOS!!
On the Astra you can de-restict the air (remove a couple of bits of plastic) and fit the induction pipe from a vectra to make it a bit more responsive - might be worth a try on the Corsa!

Yer you can fit a vectra c intake pipe and then fit a green panel filter and it helps it pull a bit better throughout the range.
What is it regal sport for to it for it to reach 157bhp??

i agree with the above tbh mate i mean VTR is basically 100BHP silver top. But as you say your just interested to see what you would have to do to ahieve 100bhp?

Yer im not that silly to spend that much work for such small gains! I just want a nice looking oval zorst for looks mainly and a nice green panel filter and a vectra intake to help remove any flat spots.

Sounds about right to me matey. Think how much it costs to get a vts to 150bhp.
Costs alot in the N/a game.

shouldnt you of just bought a 1.4 16v corsa if your looking for a slightly better performing car?

Im just curious, the 1.4 would cost too much to insure and tax etc. Just looking to improve throttle response nothing silly. Just wondeirng would it would need to get it to 100bhp thats all!

that might be the case but once you start moddin the 1.2 your insurance will go up anyway

wrong answer.
Your 1.2 with all these mods,
chances are your running costs and insurance would be the same if not more.

Remember its only a 1.2..79 BHP is pretty good for 1.2 anyway..Also being a 1.2 will have tiny injectors, small ports etc etc..So they are probably right..

Mods are future not now the only this i am doing now when i can afford it is renew the panel filter and vectra intake pipe which wont affect the insurance i dont think.
I think if i was going to mod for pure POWERRR i would do a conversion but i dont really need the POWERR so no point tbh.

If you dont need the power why are you doing it?
A vectra intake pipe and panel filter you should notify your insurance of this as a "replacement filter" is seen as a modification.

Doing as the corsa's tend to have flat spots and allowing better air flow allows a little better throttle response.
