Just recently noticed the brakes dont seem to be as effective, and there seems to be more travel in the brake pedal than there was along with a slight squeaking, is this likely to be the brakes just wearing down, or somthing else?

Check the brake pad thickness, also the servo if fitted. Pads should have at least 1/4 inch material on them. Test the servo by pressing the brake pedal with the engine off and holding the pedal down, then start the engine. The pedal should sink down, if it doesnt the servo is not working properly. If it does u may have a fluid leak, check the brake master cylinder and behind the calipers / brake backplates, looking for wet / damp patches and inside the rear drums if it has rear drum brakes.
Dont ignore it.

Yer go for pads first and dont forget the copperslip so you dont still get the squeak.
Pads are well cheap to so wont cost you much 25 quid all in front and back unless you get green stuff or something lol
