I think you can get a form from the Post Office, don't know which one will be a V5 somethingorother.

Id do a hpi check on the car if it doesnt have the v5 and yes it is a risk but a check a check should show up if its stolen etc. Also ask why he hasnt got the new v5, who was the previous owner etc

KIRKSTER-VTS
20th June 2008, 16:57
use my link , he should have done the dvla thing and got a new one issued

PosiBlue

the form you would need is a V62 - http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v62.pdf

as said above do a HPI check and ask where he bought the vehicle from.

Not a Pug on PistonHeads is it?

Anyway, links to V5C have been given, you need to send that off with the greenslip. However greenslips do not mean it comes from the latest V5 form!! www.mycarcheck.com is a cheap enough place for an HPI check.

call the dvla on 07837440578 , they'll advise you,

also text "checka1" followed by the number plate e.g "checka1 a1 abc" to 88600

that's like a mini HPI check, will tell you if the car's been a write off or anything!

does this sound ok...:zainy:

EH_Fella

£900 on what repairs? Why did his brother not get a logbook for it - it is the previous owners responsibility to send the paperwork off to make sure the new owner doesn't keep it in someone elses name then drive round and get caught speeding by a camera etc.

Sounds like a non-recorded Cat D/Cat C write-off to me mate. PM me the link if you like and I can pose as a potential buyer and ask about the logbook or whatever and see what he says to me (or another SaxP member who you know better than myself!).

I had to do it on my latest car as the previous owner had been a dick about the registration plate - one month on and DVLA said they only just had his docs in, so I told them I'm paying for a car I can't legally use and they told me to send in a V5C; being the NEW owner I didn't have to pay a fee :)

to the OP - I would steer well clear sounds like alot of trouble! The exhaust manifold is old - surely it should have been replaced in an 'engine rebuild.' Not to mention the lack of correct spelling..always puts me off buying things.

As I said above - why did the old owner not send the v5 off? I doubt it was running when it was sold. Sorry mate but I would say no way!

Just a quick warning, the dvla are known to be bastard for issuing new v5 documents, i know people that havent had any problem with it, but just be prepared for a lengthly wait, tbh id stay clear of any car without the v5.

Sharky-VTR
20th June 2008, 18:24
i remember my mate saying that about the dvla...is it still a bad choice even he says he has all the receipts for the work carried out.Take it there is no way of finding out if the car was unrecorded?

EH_Fella
20th June 2008, 18:27
Afraid not, hence being unrecorded ;) Well unless you know a friend of the owner and can ask them about it, but most people would keep stum anyway.

20th June 2008, 18:31
hahah right, as long as you have the owners slip your ok, this happened with my golf they just gave me a owners slip and were like we dont have the other bit, so i was a bit sketchy about buying it but i travelled too far to go back, but all you do is go to the post office they will give you a form that you send that slip away with as long as i has your name on it your ok

The guy I got my Saxo off couldn't find his V5, so he did the decent thing and got a new one.
Took less than a week to arrive, so tell the guy to sort it! Buying a new car isn't an excuse not too. Seems dodgy, anything out of place just walk away.

Sharky-VTR
20th June 2008, 18:36
so if i ask him to sort it and get the new one, what other sax-p members do?

Sharky-VTR
20th June 2008, 18:41
just been on the astra forum where im a member, there is a post saying.

IT IS NOW ILLEGAL IN THE UK TO SELL A CAR WITHOUT A V5 PUNISHABLE BY A £1000 FINE AND OR INPRISONMENT. THE BUYER MAY ALSO BE FINED

Mr_X
20th June 2008, 18:42
just seems a bit odd. i would go with my guy feeling and not bother. not as if saxos are uncommon. altho, could be a bargain.

Oli_K
20th June 2008, 18:43
tell him you may buy the car if he was to send off for the v5 and when he has it in his possesion you can take it from there, if he refuses to do this then you will know sometihng is up i mean how badly does he want to sell his car, if he wants to sell it he wont have a problem obtaining v5 for you.

VTS_Gaz
20th June 2008, 18:44
Might just be me but something just dont add up about the car, for all the money that was spent on the car it seems weird how its being sold so quick, might not have been in a bump but perhaps a trouble car?

Looking at the car it would have prob got the owner more cash back if rather than fixing the problems and selling it if they split the car, the alloys, the kit, exhaust etc then scrapping the shell or selling it for a project.

Sharky-VTR
20th June 2008, 18:47
this was the 1st thing that came to me was this,he would have broke it and got more cash for it:wall:

doesnt meant you will be issued a new one.

it could be something of nothing, but then again it could be dodgy, what happens if you buy the car and then the dvla refuse to issue a new v5 for whatever reason.

Sharky-VTR

There's a DVLA Place in glasgow as well so its not just Edinburgh or Carlise.

Txt the Reg to 83600, and the DVLA will send you a txt back saying wether the car's good or not if you know what I mean.

get the car VIC chcked once you get it then take the paper work to DVLA they will issue you a V5 reg document will take around 3 weeks to arrive (on the new V5 that you get it will state at the bottom this is a duplicate documant)

its as straight forward as that mate :).
VIC £35ish<< VIC is done via VOSA btw :)
