Jungle Jim in here told me a way to hide some ICE in ur car, was jus intrested has anyone else got any methods of hiding ICE in our much loved saxo's. Coz i've jus resorted to taking it out when im not driving/ get home.

Taking out the head unit is easy and cd changer when i leave. doesnt take more tham a minute. u guys shud do it also as when chavs break in n they see no head unit they assume ui got no ICE.

Its justthe sub and amp i dont like moving.

sub aint the easiest thing to take out now is it.

all i do if i park at home ireversve it up to the garage then put my dads car on the drive infront of it, so theres no way they can get into it, if i park in a car park il back it up against a wall or right up to another car so they cant get the boot open, and if i park it in a street i make sure its right in the middle and in view of everythin smileys/happy.gif

you could make a flase floor to hide your amp and carpet over the top so it looks like u got a empty boot.

hiding the sub will be quite hard due to the size of it. the only thing that i cud think of, is where the back of the boot slopes down where the rear seat bench is, build a big mdf box that goes the whole length of the boot so that the rear of the boot is flat, and cover the box in carpet and then have the sub and amp in that, then it wud look like a totally empty boot, but you wud have to re-carpet your whole boot so that it all looks the same. this is presuming the sub will fit in the box!

just thought of something else you could do (is a bit more difficult)

like stuart said, have a raised mdf false floor, and take out your spare wheel, cut the appropraite sized hole in the floor where the spare wheel used to sit and have the sub in there. but you wud have to build an outside enclosure as the sub would be sitting outside the car and get covered in shite! cud also hide the cd changer under it aswell. thus leaving the apperance of a totally empty boot! whether or not this is actually possible, i dont know, just a suggestion!

good idea to do what jamie said and make it so subs are angled towards the back seat. Would be quite hard to make it totally convincing due to the sheer size

or alternative 2, buy a sub box from auto acoustics who make a stealth
box which fits on the left and right hand side of the boot above the rear
wheel. They also sell one for the other side to put the amp in, problem
solved, they look like the sides of the boot have been carpeted and
nothing is in theresmileys/smiley2.gif

or u could get a clifford alarm with proximity sensors and tint your windows. smileys/smiley2.gif

well, there's another idea... you dont remove the ICE, simply make it harder for them to take it out...

you can use thorax screws or normal screws and after installing, use a drill to "cut" the + part where you sitck the screwdriver

Jamie your idea of putting it where the spare wheel goes is possible, i saw it done on a golf at a local cruise (southend cruise night) it looked pretty good had a hole cut and a 12" sub with a neon round it with some plexi-glass (if that how you spell it?? smileys/smiley5.gif ) over the top of it

just remember if your car is really low to watch out for those speed humps in the middle of the road lol

the saxo doesnt have a well to put it in though, you would need to cut the boot floor out the mount it.

If the sub and amp are in the boot then thats about as hidden as your going to get.

i agree with u there scott

if ur that bothered about your ice then get it insured smileys/smiley2.gif

you wont be able to hide subs that well if at all, just be careful where you park

hiding subs?? Dont fit any in the 1st place. Or build them into rear quarters somehow, 8" ones maybe?

false floor

ive been discussing with huggy how to make a false floor to hide the amp and make it more difficult to remove the sub

first of all secure ur amp to the floor of your boot, then place wooden battons which are thicker than the hight of the amp and sub around ur boot and secure them together, depending on your wood work skills use joints or just brackets or something,

(plan view)

next its easier to use carboard to cut a template of the floor then repeat it with wood once u have the right shape, you will want to cut a slot in the front of it so u can grip on it if u need to take it out (u may need to put the rear seats down). i then carpeted my false floor to make it look like the original one.

everything is now tightly secured n it stops chavs from just lifting ur sub n amp out, they will have to put the seats down n pull the floor out etc, which is usually too much hastle plus makes more noise

insurance and alarms work a treat

if not, keep ur parcel shelf empty and leave it in the car 2 make it look like u aint got owt. and for extra sureness - do as kameni kinda said and attach it 2 ur car a bit mor solidly to make the little plebs work for the loot!

or if u kno ur leaving ur car sumwher dodgy - leave the ice at home, simple as

Scott

it wont stop them. Never stopped them ripping my false floor and everything out, and mine was bolted dowm.

and by the way - hiding amps under stuf aint the best plan unless u want them overheating and dieing

wideboy
14th June 2005, 01:13
well at least it made them work for it and higher chance of getting caught!

if theyr so determined they'l get it eventually anyway, no matter wot u do

id jus highly recommend alarms, does the job for me anyway

yeah i agree with you wideboy, i mean if they arent detered by the alarm going off then a bit of mdf aint gonna stop em, i was mainly dicussing it with huggy as a practicle point of view so you can actually use your boot, or as part of an install by dressing it up a bit by using perspex windows and neons. was just so show him how i had made my false floor, rather than a security measure. it can draw more attention to a thief i suppose but like u said they safest bet with anyone with a half decent install is to get an alarm, thats why i bought a clifford cat1 wiv dual proximity sensors smileys/smiley14.gif
