Got an '01 VTRmk2. Had no real probems but left at idle the revs had been going up and down, so low that it was nearly cutting out. It had been like this a while so just left it.
This week it started misfiring badly and conked out. Managed to crawl it to a garage (injection and carb diagnostic cenrre) with it only firing on 2 cylinders. They checked it and changed the coil pack, crank sensor, spark plugs and ignition leads (£300). It runs OK now but when they gave it back, the dash does not work now (rev and speedo) and they want to charge me for them to fix it when they broke it. They also charged me £20 for ignition cables and I was told by a mate my car didn't have any!
Any help or advice?

yeah, have the same problem with low revs at idle, its a
common saxo issue, but it doesn't usually die completely!

I had the dash cut out a while ago (speedo&rev counter), I'd
be interested in knowing if many people are having this
problem. I managed to fix it that time by just turning the
ignition on and off a couple of times (waiting inbetween
obviously) and they seemed to 'reboot' and start working
again....haven't had them do it again since, but I'm pretty
sure there's something wrong with my ECU anyway.

Sorry its not really an answer to your question, as I don't
know how to fix ECU problems - you could try cold-booting
the thing by disconnecting the battery for 24hrs, although
your car will drive like sh1t for a few 100 miles afterwards
until it re-learns the settings.

your car doesnt have ignition leads if it haas a coil pack.
Leave your battery disconnected over night then re connect in the morning and see if that solves the dials, has been known to work before

mines exactly the same i got a 1.1 sx R reg - keeps dropping revs and cutting out when i brake and clutch - i took it to the garage - first they told me to change my battery - then they did the engine diagnostic thing and cleaned out the jets to be told the engines running fine...then i eventually find out its the manifold!- dont pay the garage any more-mention trading standards then they shit themselves lol
