was wondering if anyone could help me as i'm needing to get this car going by this weekend to take my scooby off the road!
when i bought the car the guy said it needed a new gearbox and that the heating didn't work! after driving the car from his door i find that the car has no power steering and the brakes didn't work! :wall:
so anyway i've now changed the gearbox and clutch while i had the box off, now the car drives fine.
problem 1: brake pedal is solid and has very little movement, you need to push as hard as possible to get anything from the brakes but dont stop the car very quick.
problem 2: heaters dont work. checked fuses
problem 3: power steering doesn't work, there is no fluid in the system and there is a shit load of clear silicone on the left hand side of the pump if you look down at it. i'm thinking its leaking and some twat thought silicone would stop the leak but didnt and has all drained out?
anyone able to shed some light on any of my problems? plz help me as i've only got tomorrow to solve them :wall:

i did see that topic but i cant find any brown wires under my steering column. i have the two red from the ignition but thats all, where would the brown wires normally run to so i can try trace the wires back to the column?

no cant get a pic up today and i really need it fixed today
the car has one of those pin pad immobilisers which has been bypassed i guess when the cliford alarm was fitted! there is a few wires under the steering column that has been cut and joined together would that be summit to do with the pin pad? i'm really confused and loosing my patience with this car!

Pointer 2: brake faulty, doesnt sound as if youve got any sevo asist! mate! check for a vacum leak!! and there should be a vacumm pipe on to the sevo! or could bea fault sevo!!

Turn the ignition on get someone to undo the brake reservior cap pump the brake if there is fluid coming back up into the reservior then good chance the master cylinder is gone.Does the brake pedal travel right to the floor? Also check the brake pads & the rear brakes as well.

how would i check for a vacum leak?
no the brake pedal doesn't even move mate it sits at the top and hardly moves towards the floor

um would think you would hear a air leak check the pipe to it is connected with the engine running disconnect it, and check the vacumm by disconnecting and put your finger over it!! should suck!! be care will let unmeter air in!! rewv will pick up lots!! would think you would have massive running problems with a air leak that size!!

You could try spraying brake clean around the sevo if you are unsure as if there is a air leak it will be pick up and sucked into the engine!! becarefully of fire!!!

1 other thing long shot I know check the calipers they might be seizing(meaning the pistons aren`t travelling correctly)

um, i would want to be sure i have a vacum before i replace the sevo, doesnt sound like you need a master mate, the pedal would be soft, and no brakes!!! do all your wheels turn freely?? try and check youve got a vacum mate it easy!!! the feed comes from the inlet manfold i think!!! check to make sure it aint been blocked from some uneplainabe reason first!!! dont no about the 1.1 question, would think not but not sure!!

think i'll go check the front calipers, i think they might be siezed as there is just a solid pedal like no brake fluid is being pushed thru the system! then i'll check a vacum leak!
wheels turn freely mate

air leak then or faulty sevo then, would suspect sevo fault but do your diagnostics first!!!

i'm needing a new power steering pump as the one fitted has been bodged and i dont want to arse about with it!
heaters still dont work, have replaced the switch with the 3 settings as mine fell to pieces when i removed centre console and thought that was the problem! i know its not to do with the wires under the ignition as rear demister still works!
my main problem is the brakes! still aint solved that problem, i know the calipers aint seized, when i pulled off the vacum pipe it wasn't sucking at all????? and when the car is idleing i'm hearing a sucking noise from under the bonnet somewhere but cant find it as the exhaust is so loud! :wall:

right youve got a vacum leak then from your inlet manfold mate, fix that that the brakes sorted!!!

if the heater dont work you need to locate the fan in the dash sumwere and check feeds and earths to the motor!! could well be the fan at fault!!! were you live just on the off chacne??

i live in aberdeen north east of scotland, my vacum pipe for the servo is connected to a pipercross induction kit which has 2 other pipes connected to it, one connects to the rocker cover which seems to be blowing out warm air. that normal?

22nd June 2008, 15:57
way to far!!! no, thats conpletey wrong, should not be connected to the engine breathing system!! what cowboy beening wrking on your car!!! lol it should be connect to the inlet manflod some were not sure were tho!!! so have you find were the air leak is on the inlet manfold????

the answer to all your problems is ''you have just bought a saxo'' lol welcome to the saxo owners world... if you don't manage to write off your car within a week then you will have numerous faults and problems to deal with in the future! good luck!

depends how much you want for it coz i was just gonna get a cheap one from my local scrap yard as this car is just a temp run around and power steering isn't an essential to drive the car with lol
