Yesterday i went over to simons at 8:30 in the morning to begin correcting his paint, it didn't need washing as he told me he did it the night before, so i gave it some quick detailer, then got the meguiars clay bar out and chemical guys synthetic detailer out, then gived it a quick wipe down, next was the polishing so out with the meguiars G220 and halogen light, paintwork was pretty shocking, there was no flake to it at all hardly, plenty of swirls and a bit of overspray, also polished headlights and mirror caps, i didn't dress the tyres as the owner told me not to just before you ask:p

Polishes i used after asessing the paint were Sonus SFX 1 and SFX 1 6inch and 3inch pads, SFX 2 pad and polish, Sealents Chemical guys wet mirror finish and Black fire midnight sun wax:p bumper care on the plastics, poorboys wheels sealent on wheels.

Total time it took me was 9:30hrs

Hope you enjoy the pictures:thumb:

Need some correction work pictures, 50/50's.

Also picture 2 indicates to me your working in far to big of an area, try and split big panels like bonnets down into 6 areas. You will achive much better correction this way.

Looks like a nice finish though dude

Thanks for the comments James, hopcraft, bullit and Viper:y: as for 50/50's pictures i haven't a clue how to take them, so if someone could help me or give me some advice on taking 50/50's then that would be great:) as for correction the swirls have gone just abit gutted i couldn't take 50/50 shots:oops:

James
27th June 2008, 17:39
50/50 of craigs car that I did,

http://www.downtown-mafia.com/craigy/18.jpg

Take some masking tape, make a line down the panel. Be it the roof, half the arch or a section of the bonnet etc..

Polish one side, remove the tape, put halogens onto it so we can see the difference and if the paint was fully corrected.

Viper
27th June 2008, 18:10
duct tape works just as well too

James
27th June 2008, 18:13

Viper

Whore in the making you ghey :p

Proper 50/50 pictures are good to show the state of the paintwork to begin with and after correction what the finish is like mate. What camera are you using Wayne?

since there seems to be questions flyin about here, thought i'd ask one. It may be because i'm using abit too much polish am not sure but after a few panels i feel the pad is getting abit bogged down am i doing something wrong or would it be better to invest in two of each type of pad?? cheers

that was happening with james' pads when he had a go at my roof and bonnet. i would love to give you some tips etc of how to avoid it etc, but i cant.. tough :P

To be honest mate, that has only ever happened to me on vipers car. Pad was getting bogged to the point is was becoming a nightmare to remove any defects.

Personally all I can advise is that you make sure the panel is 100% clean before you put the machine on it, wash it, clay it, wash it, dry it and wipe it down with QD is how I do all cars I machine.

Spray the pad with QD and apply 3 x 5 pence blobs on polish in the center of the pad.

I blame the bogging down to viper not claying and washing his bonnet propelly to be honest :P

Also try using Menz if your not, with a PC you should not run into many problems.

When the pad becomes blocked just wash it out with warm water

craigy_87
28th June 2008, 07:32
think i'm using too much polish tbh how often sould i add more polish to the pad (just making sure i aint doing it too much lol)

Viper
28th June 2008, 09:20
im guessing its when the pad is beginning to go dry

Wayne
28th June 2008, 11:20
Thanks for the help on taking 50/50 shots, will get some up hopefully on my next detail:)

Whore in the making you ghey :p

camera i'm using red is a canon 400d:) with a 18mm/ 55mm lense which comes with it.

im guessing its when the pad is beginning to go dry

yep it's when the pad goes dry and loads of polish all piled up on the pad, i tend to just use quick detailer and have no problems.

No clear cut answer mate, but most people will reccomend this method.
Check point 3 about application and prepping the surface and pads....

bullit
28th June 2008, 18:45
you pad will clog. you can brush it to get the polish back out craig
