How old are you? Remember about insurance.

You'd do well to get fully comp insurance on a Clio Sport. If you want reliability then obviously steer clear of the French scene. Go Jap.
What are you wanting from a car though? What are your requirements? No-one can really give you any useful help unless they know what your needs are and what you want from the new car. All the opinions will just be biased opinions on cars that they want themselves. :)

Yea i put it up to see what offers etc i'd get. Had a few very good offers but turned everything down so far. I prefer the EP82 (GT) to the EP91 (Glanza), Glanza look pretty ugly unless styled right. They look a tad to micra-ish. lol

How quick are these starlet turbo's?
Quicker than VTS's? Quicker than clio 182's? Quicker than scoobies?
Never really heard much about them tbh...

I definately want a car that has comfort and abit of speed, realibility isnt the biggest issue but obviously I wouldnt mind if it didnt break down all the time :P

Honda Civic 1.5 VTEC? Nippy and reliable, plus a fun revvy engine. Mk2/ Mk3 Golf GTi? German build quality, still goes some. 106 GTi or VTS are always good choices. vtrapid off here got a mint 2003 vts with just 27k miles for 2700 just a few days ago, alot for your cash...

I would look in to a gti I think there more refined.

Standard they are slower than VTS/GTi's but you can get them up to about 150bhp for very little money and then they will be quicker the VTS/GTi's, probably be even with a 182 but nowhere near scoobies etc unless you start spending massive bucks forging internals, upgrading turbo etc etc. They are great in a straight line...not so great in a corner. No rear arb, pretty nose heavy, crap brakes, crap suspension from standard and suspension is not cheap!!
:P

How about a Honda Del Sol? Quick, can be very good looking, 2 seater, convertable for the great british summer lol...

The 172 is quicker than a VTS GTi.
approx 156bhp per tonne for a ph1 172 I believe,
thats with all the leather interior, etc.

A GTi with correct breathing Mods driven well will keep with a 172. A GTi/VTS also 'feels' faster. You get the go-kart feeling in a VTS/GTi that you don't get with the 172. The 172 is more refined and sensible.

But he is after comfort aswell as speed.
Plus both in standard form the 172 is the quicker car.

Very true mate. VTS/GTi ain't exactly comfortable.
Right again the 172 is quicker in standard form BUT they aren't the nicest looking car in standard unless you get the Cup (I think) with the Speedline Turinis. Also, the Phase 1's don't look as good as the phase 2's. If i got a phase 1 everytime I seen a ph 2 I'd wish I'd gone for that one lol.

Oh yeah, this is true.
I think Id seriously consider a 206 GTi for 3k.
newish car,
nippy.

Help us out a bit then mate. What are you a fan of? Surely you must have your eye on a few different cars?
Karl
23rd June 2008, 11:19
for 3k Id look at a really mint VTS with low low miles.
3k also buys a 106 GTi with more miles and probably not so mint (pointless as theyre the same car tbh.)
3k buys a 50-60k Ph1 172.
