What's your opinions on the budget brands?
I always used to assume they would be utter crap and tasteless because they are so cheap, but I have been enlightened!
Tesco Value Chicken Noodles - 8p - Tasty as!
Tesco Value Mini Swiss Rolls x 6 - 32p - Yum Yum
Tesco Value Chocolate - 27p for 150g, tastes almost as good as Dairy Milk
Tesco Value Lemonade - absolutely wonderful!
Tesco Value Apples/Bananas - whats the difference?
Tesco Value Orange/Apple Juice - tasty as!
I might yet become on of those people that has a shopping trolley full of Value goods - but there are some things you can't get away with buying cheapo goods:
Coke
Irn Bru
Baked Beans (Branston beans ONLY for me!)
Eggs (don't do battery hens, get ours from local farm, ALL double Yolk too!)
Crisps - Walkers or nothing!
Batteries
Are you a value-addict?

i work at ASDA and so i eat ASDA value food all the time in the canteen. The ASDA value chocolate is the nicest chocolate every. 23p for a massive bar its good. There is a lot of value stuff that is top stuff and id buy all the time.
A point thats often made. All food must pass certain standards and so all foods are generally made in the same way with the same things. Asda also have removed all their artafical (sp?) colourings and perservatives in all their brand products so they are pretty good.

Most of the value stuff is packaged by the big players. You get the same stuff but in different packaging.
Supermarket marketing departments have massive budgets for getting manufacturers to package their products in the supermarkets packaging
Say that after a few jars!!!

lol this thread - but i have an asda a couple of minutes walk from me (Queensferry) so when i buy cheap (rarely - my dad does the shopping, and he buys brands) i buy smart price, and i don't complain, swiss roles deserve a shout! lol
btw one thing i learnt in Business Studies (and i didn't learn much - lol) is that it is a slight con lol.
Alot of the value branded goods are made by the giant compaines, i think some examples could be...
Kellogs make sp cereal flakes
Mcvitties make most sp biscuits
... there are more examples, but i can't remember (i got a C in BS btw, but don't remember much at all lol)

Asda coke isn't too bad if your mixing with vodka....Cheapo vodka at that!
1.5 litres for £15. Can't beat that!
Don't go for the smartprice vodka though, rank!
Also avoid asda and tesco cornflakes.

I worked in morrisons for 3 years and while there one of the managers who had been there for about 25 years told me that the morrisons own brand weetabix was actually made by weetabix and he was told by someone from the company so i wouldnt be surprised if a lot of the products where the same. also from what the butchers used to say most of them who had previously been traditional type butchers before the supermarkets sarted taking away the business is that most of the meat contains a lot of water.
kenny
24th June 2008, 17:00
the meat doesnt contain added water its just the things like the sausages and burgers, the process that is used to make them is what makes the supermarkets able to sell them soo cheap.
most of the fresh meat is foreign (sp) meat. brazillian etc etc
