Chico999
24th June 2008, 02:32
Lol can imagine its pretty unlikely, Mostly gypsies with stinking old jeeps that do it.

wigansaxo
24th June 2008, 02:41
seen it done in a 306 but thats it! think of the smoke form an onl saxo with it in!

Chico999
24th June 2008, 02:43
Lol!

Where do you get the stuff anyway?

No intention of using it, just curious.

Thought it was just for agriculture?

wigansaxo
24th June 2008, 02:47
it is agriculture and i have no idea were it comes from, watched summin on tv were they took the red out of it and sold it on! a taxi place used to fill up there!

Chico999
24th June 2008, 02:51
Lol madness!

Pretty sure it's just diesel with a dye, but it's cheaper somehow.

Why just give it to the farmers, when they could be using it for the HGV's that practically run the country?

Economy fuck up right there.

You can get it in big containers from farms or building sites usually,

Elliott
24th June 2008, 06:27
theres a industrial estate near me that does it, one of my mates dad's uses it in his car has been doing for the past few years.

its cheaper!

My old man got pulled and had his tank tested last week!!

He does drive round in a 1998 transit though...:p

Luke
24th June 2008, 07:26
Vans are prone to be pulled lately because of the fuel prices.

I can get hold of it for £20 for 25 gallons, but I won't be doing...

xclairex
24th June 2008, 08:03
My mate has used it in his 306 and his golf, donesnt get much black smoke though, theres a few garages local to me where he just fills up massive containers 52p a litre :)

Elliott
24th June 2008, 08:07
you spell it red diesel btw:homme:

Quick
24th June 2008, 08:25
It has a much lower rate of tax, if your tank get dipped and red dye is found you will get a fine!

djawesome123
24th June 2008, 11:05
Hence why hardcore cherry users get 2 tanks fitted. One for if they get pulled and the other for driving on. Loads of my mates do it in their landrovers though. Might do it in the merc if i get really strapped for cash lol

wigansaxo
24th June 2008, 11:12
they can take the red dye out of it now! counter fit diesle lol

Pat_Vts

Yup, its just standard diesel that has had a dye added. It has a much lower rate of tax on it, used by farmers and its used airside at airports!

if that is the case

why doesnt everyone use it?

but is it as effective and nothing wrong doesnt do any damage to engine etc etc?

if that is the case

It's just as effective as normal diesel and doesn't do ANY damage.

However, because it's for tractors etc they do not pay tax and that's why people don't use it because it's illegal.

I'd love to use it, but I don't want to be caught...

wigansaxo
24th June 2008, 11:34
ive seen it used in a 306 diesle turbo and it was fine! and you hear about it being uesd all the time in some cars so it should be fine!

think about it

how can you get caught if your driving a fairly new sensible car?

in my opinon my next car should be a golf turbo diesel and i will use red diesel, no one will know the difference ... and i save myself alot of dough on fuel bills but its a risk you take...

im keeping the vts for 2years minimum anyway:)

wigansaxo

dont think they can catch u iv it has the dye removed! cos if they check ya tank its just normal

I'm very tempted to do it mate, but I don't know if I dare run the risk still.

Guy I worked with at Morrisons had a 6 month old Golf 2.0 TDi he his running on red diesel, he has even removed the TDi badge at the back lol.

I do agree though, more newer the car the better.

dunno how u do it, it cas on one of them police things on tv, a farm was removing it and then selling it to taxies and stuff, and now i think about it they had to get some kinda chemist in to test it and make sure it was red diesle without the dye! so pretty gd i think! think it was called road wars! look out for it cos its always the same thing

Reid

i worked for a firm that delivered it & yes it WILL knacker your injectors up if you use it all the time, you gotta mix it with normal diesel so it lubricates your injectors at least once a month,i"m talkin by experience,so be warned!!!

A mate did this for a while, then sold all the gear on as it was far too much hassel making the bio diesel to run the car. He was saying you either need to have alot of spare time or produce much bigger batchs that will last for a month or so.

what you mix it with? spirits or sumin? and were u get it from?

Just mix the veggie oil with diesel

New oil is best, old oil contains chip fat and all sorts of food crap.

If you go to tesco and buy the biggest cooking oil things they have think it works out at around 72p a litre. Just bung it in with some diesel, runs fine, doesnt smell like a burger van either!

Sounds like rubbish to me.

oh and the cheap stuff from tesco in the big bottles, come in those bottles that are compressable, so you just put in into the fuel tank filling hole, let it start poring in and give the bottle some compression pressure, and it speeds the process up.

1/4 tank of diesel to 3/4's chip fat oil?

That would probs run fine. You might want to start by running it 50/50 then build up the amount you put in.

Fair enough.

Im deffinatly going to start do it as im only a student and with the price of diesel going up now im always about round the roads and travelling so would save me the pennys.

Its about £40ish to a full tank and thats like 500ish miles.

Least ill be able to say it will be like £20ish for a full tank now:P

How many litres of oil will i need for the 50/50 mix?

Ashleyp
24th June 2008, 18:13
tank holds 45litres iirc

so 22.5 to be precise lol

Barry123
24th June 2008, 22:13
I'd rather use red diesel than have my car smelling like a Harry Ramsden's to be honest.

It doesn't smell that obvious sean, honestly stick your face in the oncoming direction of a exhaust from a car running veggie oil and then from one running mineral diesel... you'd be hard pushed... some say that you need to sniff it for a good 5 mins mind... up to you.

A mate did this for a while, then sold all the gear on as it was far too much hassel making the bio diesel to run the car. He was saying you either need to have alot of spare time or produce much bigger batchs that will last for a month or so. my mate was saying the same thing man, takes him about 3 hours (labour) to make 50 litres, although he's just acquired some bigger containers so he reckons he can make more for the same amount of time. Not sure he's thought about how he'll shake all of it though lol

Just mix the veggie oil with diesel

new oil or used?

new... don't use used unless you have a spare filter paper and some potassium and meths.

Think im gonna have to start using chip fat oil, estimate with the tank what would you say.

1/4 tank of diesel to 3/4's chip fat oil?

steady... best to do it in a 10:90 ratio, then 20:80, 30:70 and so on. It's not so bad now (during summer) but because veggie oil is pretty viscose it has a habit of bungin up you fuel system in cool weather and winter. keep the ratio sensible as I doubt you're going to install a pre heater for it.

if i was to get a cheapDIESELsaxo and strip it out, would it make it better on fule?

if you were to put 2 tonnes of weight on the car... will it hit performance and mpg? yep... remove the weight the more economical it'll be dude (up to a point)

I heard that you need a Bosch fuel pump to run veggie oil... Is this true?
True.

1.5D's come with Lucas fuel pumps on the early models and bosch on the later ones. Whilst the engine is 100% PERFECTLY capable of running on PURE veggie oil, the pump may or may not be depending on model.

The lucas pump WILL NOT work... you'll kill it with a ratio as generous as 20:80.
the bosch is 'believed' to be perfectly fine. some people have done over 30,000 with that particular type of pump and have reported no probs.

adsayer. knows his diesely shit.

Yes it does exist, family friend works for BP just need to take the colouring out and it can not be traced!
