dodgy wiring along the line somewhere imo

i blew a fuse by accident because i touched power and earth together..

maybe in your case the power is touching something else which is causing it to short

cool. if i like wired it up to my battery so its got a constant live feed, would that stop it blowing cos its technically passing the system like

yeah i guess.. but i dont see the need to do that for a headunit as wires are allready there

also if u were to do that, ud need to fuse the wire.. and make sure it has a remote wire, so it turns off when your car does, and doesnt drain the battery

When you say it cuts out all the power in the car, does that include engine? Or just central locking and interior lights?

Wow! Thats some serious short there!!

Which fuse blows? One of the main ones under the bonnet?

Take the head unit out and tape up any connections which have the potential to touch anything else, such as the remote, or maybe the handbrake switch. Thinking about it, what did you do with the handbrake switch??

Well if that handbrake switch happened to touch the remote, or any other power lead then it would most certainly blow it.

Tape the all up out of harms way.
