Right does anyone know where i stand in the fact that i took my car to a garage to be fixed and i had a courtesy car and the police rang them and told them they stopped me for handbraking it etc, the police broke the law by doing that.

So now he wont release my car until i pay some £300 for damage to the courtesy car for a 10 metre handbrake skid.

Now by law can he hold it then?? surely thats theft if he wants to sue me then he can but i need to know where i stand asap as he is going to start charging storage everyday i dont go and get it.

he cant re-fuse to give it to you and fine you for stoage?thats crazy talk.
how does he know the damage done if any is 300 quid if you still have the courtesy car?
iam not sure wether the police can do that,as the company isnt exactly a third party, they are owners of the vehicle.
you need to get the bloke to give you 3 quotes for what needs fixing.
also they shouldnt be able to hold your car as they dont have any reason to.go down there with the police and demand your car back after you paid for any work done on YOUR car and your car only

lol your own fault for handbraking it really. Or atleast handbraking it and getting caught in the act. Your in the wrong the police and the garage know it, regardless of how the garage knows, they know, and anyway how would you react if they was doing the same to your car?

iirc he made a topic when this happned, he left the handbrake on when he was setting off that's why it wa sonly 10m and the Police happned to be driving past

well then thats hardly fair then is it.. and two rear tyre are hardly going to cost 300 quid for the pair.

Demand proof, and they cant charge you for holding it as they have technically threatened you with a false claim.. without proof this claim is nothing, spare car keys? Get a mate to rob the car back? ;)

could you not technically report your car as stolen because thats what it is really and have you been to the garage to explain your side of the story they may be understanding of what happened i mean everyone has made mistakes.

infact i just thought... you could take it to a garage and ask them to assess the car and let you know what damage there is (obviously none) and put it in writing for you... otherwise the garage could cause 300 quids worth of damage to use against you when they get the courtesy car back.... sound like he is trying to rip you for a general mistake... cover your arse mate

^^ Hmm good point. Ask then to point the damage out to you on the courtesy car. Maybe even take some pics of it beofre you take it back to prove its fine when you gave it back to them.

take it to kwickfit they will tell you if anything is wrong with it for free and as long as its nothing to do with the rear of the car youl be safe! shotgun having the rat off of you when you get rid of her ;)

go take it to quickfit get there assesment take it back and tell them to fuck off (literally and demand your keys back and even get the police down there if you have to) it wont be good for there business if customers are seeing police come in and out!!!

and even deter there customers at the entrance if it helps!!!

explain to the garage that if they are not willing to realese your car you will have to charge them for the loan of the car obvioustly make this amount significantly higher than what they charge you. but to be fair it sounds pretty bad especially if the handbrake was accidental. also whats the courtesy car?
