Yes.

Although with it being a MK1 shell you'll have too swap the entire loom over too as it's a MK2 engine.

I think that's wrong mate.

With it been a W reg VTR - the engine is actually a MK1 so in theory should swap straight over as it's the single plug ECU.

They started 3 plugs from 2000 Reg+ Luke, making the engine he's talking about a 3 plug ECU.

Just put the sensors off the 97 engine onto the 2001 then you can still use your 97 loom & ecu
