What sensor is this?

This sensor seems to be causing problems with my car! Can anyone tell me what it is? It is located on top of the gear box to the left of the battery! I have it disconnected in the picture to try and show it better! Also circled it in paint lol!

yeah reverse light my switch was faulty and my reverse lights wouldnt go off
