Just bought myself the Meguiars smooth surface clay kit and am going to do my car properly at the weekend. What else is reccomended to purchase? Any reccomendations on shampoos? In general what else should I be buying?
Thinking these would be a good purchase: http://www.sheepskinshop.co.uk//productlisting.aspx?cid=42&pid=22&c=Wash%20and%20P olish%20Mitts
Plus any tips on how to do it all would be great!
Cheers

The megs kit comes with a microfibre and will get a lambswool mit.
Regards to budget probably upto £50.00? If that will get me anything decent - would rather spend a bit and get decent stuff than buy a couple of crap products and waste my money.

i got a fair bit for about £80
that was pretty much everything needed to clean a car completely though, including bumper care, interior shampoo and detail brush

This is what i would recommend:
Autoglym Shampoo (Wouldn't normally recommend AG but their bodywork shampoo is alright)
Do you have a hose pipe?
If so buy one of these (Click) (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/super-spray-hose-end-sprayer/prod_335.html)
You can use it with Autoglym Shampoo but i would buy Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/chemical-guys-maxi-suds-ii/prod_165.html) as it works better imo.
That Claybar kit you have is good enough :y: I've used it myself and got good results.
Chemical Guys Polish (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/chemical-guys-all-in-one-polish/prod_166.html)
TBH i'm not too sure which wax to recommend so i'l leave that for someone else.
Heres a couple other bits and bobs that you will need:
Sheepskin Wash mitt (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/eurow-sheepskin-wash-mitt/prod_452.html)
Tbh get on ebay, you can get them much cheaper than that. I think i got two for £4 iirc.
That link in your first post to the washmitt, thats the one i use and its sooooo good! But expensive on that link tbh mate.#
Two buckets (local DIY store?)
Probably missed a couple things but i'm sure this might help abit ;)

Thanks for all your help,
So far I am getting the Superspray and the Maxisuds shampoo, a sheepskin washmitt and the all in one polish.
The drying towel is that important or could I get by without one?
What is the sealant and when should it be used?
I've got a couple of buckets and the megs kit came with wax so will use that.
As you can see I am new to this so all your help is much appreciated.

The sealant comes after the polish,
Buy some its well worth it for extra protection and gloss:y:
Get the AG shampoo also to mix with the maxi suds and for when you are using the two bucket method,
Drying towel isn't essential if you are a bit stuck for cash but if you can afford one get one

Ok, will get the drying towel. So its best to get the maxi suds and AG shampoo?
Would something like this be any good:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPER-SOFT-WASH-MITT-SPONGE-MIT-CAR-WASH-MIT-PRO-NEW_W0QQitemZ220251399987QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item2 20251399987&_trkparms=72%3A636%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Or is there a noticeable difference between the more expensive ones?

The more you pay the better quality the mitt will be,
It will end up being cheaper in the long run as it will last longer and you will end up buying a better one in the end up buying a more expensive one anyway
But you can get a pack from halfords which has three mitts one wash, polish and bug remover/window cleaner which is okay to start with
Yeh for the pre wash maxi its better to use them both and them for the mitt wash you can use AG shampoo, Maxi suds or both together again :y:

I used that kit the other day on my MG ZS followed by normal Turtlewax polish then some of the Autoglym high gloss resin sealant and was very pleased with the results;

I would say for now scrap the maxi suds and the super spray and get a good sealant,
AG EPG (Extra Gloss Protection) is great if you are low on cash

Make sure you have enough applicators and MF towels. Check out this guy for some of your stuff, reasonably priced and usually throws in a free MF towel and/or applicator with whatever you're buying.

All stuff came today held off buying until the discount was sorted.
Whats the best way to do it:
Hose the car down
Wash with AG shampoo using 2 bucket method
Use the drying towel
Clay
2 bucket method
Dry towel
Wax
Polish
Sealent
That sound about right?
I have bought 2 applicators and 3 MF towels. I take it I apply the wax, polish and sealent using the applicators then buff it out with the towels?
Thanks

I don't dry before claying, wash using 2 bucket method, rinse, clay. Wash again using 2 bucket method, rinse, dry, polish, seal then wax. I use foam applicators to apply the polish and sealent then buff with MF towels (different ones for each product). I use a MF applicator for the wax and buff with a good quality MF towel. Poorboys Gloss & Shine for the windows inside and out/lights/mirrors/number plates (yeah I'm sad like that lol). Poorboys trim restorer for the outside trim. Megs Endurance high gloss gel for the tyres ...hopefully to be applied with my special foam applicator when it arrives :y:

So you should seal before you use wax then? Thought it would be other way round?

Yeah, seal then wax. Did you get Poorboys EX-P? On the CYC site it says to use it as a base coat under the wax. Sealent also makes it easier to apply the wax. I think basically the sealent seals in everything and the wax makes a harder protection over it all ...might be wrong though lol. You don't have to wax after using sealent. I don't wax my mum's car as hers is silver and it has a better 'wet look' just using sealent. Saying that though, just took advantage of the CYC offer and got some Clearkote Vanilla hand glaze and some Moose wax ...thought I'd try them out :y:
