Got a feeling my gearbox is on its way out. Apart from the 'clunk' noise everytime i change gear, reverse is starting to grind when i enagage, and the gears in general feel rough and blocky. Sometimes when rolling to a stop and i got to put it into 1st, it feels like something is in the way so have to put gentle pressure on it to ease it in.
So... how much am i looking at for a new gearbox?

could just be clutch mate, thats what it sounds like to me, get it checked by garage get some prices but clutches normally go for about £150 fitted, gearbox looking bout £80 for the box and same again to fit it mate.

I'd look more at the problem being the gear linkages, if it's difficult to get in gear. When you have gearbox problems they tend to be bearings and if it isn't engaging or if it's slipping then it would be the clutch. But with the info given I would say it's the linkages!!! Hope this helps!
As above, check the linkages first. You may be getting a little clutch drag hence the crunching into reverse, if memory serves me there is no mesh on the reverse gears.

Yeah, about £30 will get you the linkages, have a look though maybe for some uprated ones as the standard ones are known for going!!
Also when you put the linkages on, you can tighten up the gear stick too by putting one of the linkages that has the option of 2 balls to go on the furthest one away i think it is!! - just makes it feel a lot tighter and its a bit cheaper than a quick shift!!
when did you last put gearbox oil in? and have you noticed any leaks? when did you last change the driveshafts as when you change the drive shafts you should change the oil seasl too as you wreck them taking out and its the most comon place for leaks!!
