last bit of sub help i promise.

ok guys.. got the sub working, but now im unsure as to wether its actually working well. it doesnt seem to be giving out a great deal of bass.

could this be down to the box ive made for it? its 11" x 11" x 9" and ive filled it with wadding.

there is three dials on the amp aswell

level, LPF and low boost

whenever i turn the level up it makes the sub distort and sound like itsa vibrating against something (it isnt) but its a nasty sound. the amp then cuts out and the light goes red and i have to turn the head unit off and on. so any ideas?

ive got a small box for the sub i dont think the size of the box matters! mite b the settings on the amp

the size of the box matters!!! its one of the most important things!

Work out the volume of your box you have made and compare them with the recommened volume of the sub.

Set teh amp to LPF (low pass filter, it only lets low fequencys to the sub) Turn off all bass boost shite. Set the gain to Zero and turn the stereo onto normal listening volume, set gain so it matches, repeat further up volume levels, if it distorts turn gain down until it does not distort.

sort of, its a little bit better, but still distorts at quite a low 'lever' setting. i think il have to buy a more suitable box for it. as the curent one me and my mate knocked up in about 10 minutes, and is pants.

do you recomend filling the box with any sort of wadding?

hummm you shouldnt need anything inside the box. u need venting for the subs tho.

if u havent already done that with the orignal box u made that might improve the sound.

the sub needs 2 breath if u couldnt i think you would distort or may b even die lol

if you dont have room on the face of your box it would be fine 2 drill into the side of the box.

subs dont need venting. If you want to port a box then you have to recalculate the box and use a specific port length width etc... just cutting a hole in the top of the box will probably make it sound worse

that definitely wouldnt make any difference most 'ready-made' boxes dont have venting

the box is what creates the flow and movement of air to make the bass noise! as Scott has already pointed out...you can't cut random holes, etc... everything has to be done to strict measurements to get the full capacity out of a sub

i think il just buy a box for it lol. my mate has pinched my amp now anyway so looks like theres no point!
