Right, this has been happening since about 5 days ago, just randomly started.
When I rag it (not litrally, like acceleratin from stops, high speed roads etc) after a few mins the over heatin light comes on, I havn't got a gauge fitted as it's a 1.0
We've bled the system, and seems to be air trapped, had another go yesterday but still over heating randomly.. is it an easy fix?
How much am I looking at from a garage and what needs to be done
Just so I can have an idea

Could be the head gasket, unless there is an obvious leak such as from a split hose or a hole in the radiator

Nah no holes, had a new radiator cap fitted recently as well as the old one was loose and didn't do anything
Had a mate look at signs of the head gasket all looks okay, had a mechanic had a very breif look he couldn't see anything obvious
needs a good looking at though

Does the heater blow hot when it should? If not its an airlock or possibly a blocked cooling sytem. Try a good flushing agent and do the cooling system bleed again as per the Haynes book. If this fails get a sniff test done by a garage to check for combustion gasses in the coolant, this should confirm or rule out a HG issue. There is usually oil in the coolant expansion tank and / or a mayonnaise like substance in the oil filler cap too, but not alwyas.
Think lucky, flush and bleed... :y:

The light normally comes on after a few mins of driving and then the fan comes on to cool it down
But tonight I went on a long run in it see if anything was happening, on the way it come on, stopped in a car park had a drink with my mate and stuff, was probably turned off for about 30-40 mins, put antifreeze before i set off home
the light and fan come on as usual after a few mins driving, dropped my mate off then the light went off and the fan went off
didn't come back on all the way home.. reckon if there was air trapped in there.. it's now sorted? as i said it was a long run
