Don't want to be using a PC to take back rough laquer.. you will need a rotary.
If the laquers rough I would advise wetsanding it and machine polishing back to a gloss finish because you will never get a perfect finish if you don't. I can't understand why if the bodyshop is painting your car why they are not sorting this out for you.. it's common practice in most bodyshops dude.

James how do you wet sand mate?? Also what is the difference between the PC/UDM and a Rotary?

The rotary has allot more power and will give a better finish if you use it correctlly, downsides are it can be a complete ballache to use.. it's also not the easiest thing in the world to use. You constantlly have to pay attension to what your doing because it's always trying to move away from you. Has much more power than a pc/udm.
Matt wetsanding ain't easy, even I havent tried that yet lol... well I tell a lie, I did and I burnt through the paint on my spare spoiler. So for that reason I don't do it on any cars to remove deeper scratches/orange peel. (I also don't have a paint guage). Effectivley what your doing is knocking the paint back so it's fully flat, once your done you will obviousley have sanding marks everywhere so you need to machine them out with a machine. Don't get me wrong, I've seen it done with a PC but it would take a lifetime.
Do a search on DW on how to do it dude, you will need some very fine sandpaper and a machine.. also some spare panels might be a good idea lol
Edit : Saxo908... are you sure that the rough laquer is not overspray?

no im spraying it and was paint shop what said it they said a rotary is best to do it with and they sell them for £100 but everyone says there a deadly machine so thought a pc would be better as slower will rep you when get home as on my phone atm any tips for a rotary?

Rotarys arn't that bad, they can be dangerous but like I said if you concentrate and use common sence you should be fine. Why don't you get one your work mates to do a panel for you dude, 1 panel should not take long and then it's going to give you a pretty good idea on how to use them.
My only advise is don't go overboard with it, don't spend to long on a panel.. if it fails the first time just hit it again and again until your happy. The last thing you want to do is burn through the fresh paint.. might be rather soft if it's just been sprayed as well so can't see it being that hard.

I think what you need will be stated in here,
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=75072&highlight=wetsand
Some very fine sandpaper soaked in water for 24 hours,
A big bucket of water,
A rotary or a PC UDM if you have a lifetime on the car in question.
A paint guage is a must,
A good polish and a good finishing polish..

Hate the car but the results are amazing thats awesome! Wish i could get results half as good tbh. Would wet sand unless i was 100% sure i could do it with out wrecking the car.
How do you attach the paper to the UDM?
What sort of polish would you need to restore it back to shine after wetsanding?

haha, you do the sanding by hand mate.. :P, theres also a way to do that so you would need to read up about it.

Polish would be personal preferance, by the time you even get to wetsanding you should have enough experiance to determine a good polish you are comfartable working with dude.

Hey mate,
Im selling a Ultimate detailing machine if your interested ( the upgrade of a porter cable ) Drop me a pm if your interested.
I had an old astra to play with so i tried the old wetsanding job to remove some self inflicted scratches.
I used a 2000 grit sandpaper, although i was told to use 1500 , because i ddnt want to go mental. Anyway after a careful session of sanding i polished up the area and it looked quite impressive tbh, i did it in stages buffing after each to see what it was like then when i thought it was ok i did one more pass and stopped.
It was easier than i thought it would be, the rotary was a bit of a pain in the arse to use but i rekon thats just me being a noob.
I didnt use any fancy techniques just my eyes and a few tips read off here. Only thing i can recommend is to sand the car like your claying it, use too much polish at first and go actually see someone polish a car before going at it yourself.

never clayed my car :D as most of the panels are different colours so easyer to keep them dirty and harder to tell the difference haha
