View Full Version : I feel sorry...

For all of those people who drive big engine or ‘now’ expensive cars to run.

I went down to the Peugeot dealer yesterday to get the diesel they promised and whilst in there, I was talking about the current situation with fuel & car tax. I basically said I’m glad I got rid of the Focus when I did, as trying to part exchange the car now I’d get next to nothing for it due to them not selling anymore.

Few of you must be selling VTS’s on here? Are you finding it hard? £310 is a LOT for car tax.

A few weeks ago I was thinking getting a Diesel was bad idea due to the prices, but when you think about it will hold the value quite well still and fact I just paid £120 for 12 months road tax, with next year been £90. I’m saving long term…..

What are you thoughts?

Do you reckon it’s going getting harder?

Fuel prices slowing down? I think they are….

Paul

I havent noticed fuel prices slowing down.

They just keep going up up up.

Its rediculous tbh.

-Jason-
7th July 2008, 13:14
They seem to be slowing here sort of staying at 115.9

MAS
7th July 2008, 13:14
well my bro pays about 320Pound or something like that to tax a Bmw convertible 2007 and the fuel is really bad as it drinks heavy but i dont seem prices going down tbh they just going up by the day !

Luke
7th July 2008, 13:15
Well at my local Morrisons it was going up on average 3p a week, now it's 1p a week.

Shell garage near work is 2p under everyone else though, which is strange.

Don't forget the the road tax hike is currently under review! :)

leeroybrown
7th July 2008, 13:19
Was the main reason I got rid of the scooby... SO glad now as V-power is now something like £1.26 a litre and it used to drink it like a fish seriously.....Think i got more miles if i ragged it then i did with norma driving

As much as I dont want to pay the 310 for road tax... i aint getting rid of the car.. will just have to get on with it like everyone else

Troys have suggested a new way of cutting duty on fuel at the momment if they come to power

Scattle
7th July 2008, 13:19
Staying around 118.9 around here. Hasn't gone up recently.

Clouds_mate
7th July 2008, 13:22
paying £1.26 for petrol here. Gone through £60 worth of the shit in 5 days.

Just get on withit tbh.

Dan
7th July 2008, 13:22
When I eventually get my own car, its going to be either diesel or small engined for now. Prices round here are at about 119.9

Luke
7th July 2008, 13:23
Well say if I had a VTS, there is no way I could afford to pay for the 12 months road tax to be honest, then they are considering charging different tax on older cars which will mess a lot of people up.

Jobs on the line with all this, it's stupid...

Daffron
7th July 2008, 13:24
The road tax hike is gash, it hits the poor much harder than the rich.

Im not convinced by global warming either tbh, its happening but its not us.

Luke
7th July 2008, 13:25
I know we have to get on with it, but it's wrong that it's come to this.

Average living costs have shot up. Even for non house owners.

Everything cost more yet still on normal wages. its poop

The pre March 2001 Vts has lower tax! Its going to make older cars hold more value!

Best way would be to get a pre 1972 car - free tax!!!

Exactly.

I was eating a Tesco Cheese & Tomato Pasta Snack at lunch – it’s now £1.28……I could of sworn it was £1.09 a few weeks back.

Fuel has gone up, food (due to running wagons etc), car tax, insurance is obviously increasing.

Average cost of living is now up 11%

Average wage rise is like 2 – 3%.

House prices are coming DOWN but nobody can get the 10% deposit.

Fucked up country we live in, seriously!

Pre 2001 vts's FTW. £185 for a years tax. Mines due at the end of this actualy, nearly forgot.

EH_Fella
7th July 2008, 13:43
In all fairness, the biggest problem is the proposed car tax hikes, the cost of fuel and thus the amount of money people spend getting to and from work. The simple solution is to take public transport or buy a bike (if you can).

The credit crunch isn't as bad as it seems, the media obviously just make people much more jumpy. With the increase of food and drink me and EssexHoney are actually being more careful about what we buy and to be honest, aren't much worse off. The money is there for people to borrow, however the criteria required to get your hands on a loan is just stricter.

Also, I'm more worried about the rise of gas for the end of the year than the cost of food. I'm happy to live on beans on toast for a month ;)

Petrol is worse than anything... will feel it going to uni and back everyday for 3 years lol. Might actually be cheaper to live there i'm thinking 40 mile round trip a day... going to suck balls.

Tis life though... get in serious debt then die, that's the way to roll :y:

Ocego_VTR

Ashleyp
7th July 2008, 15:10
tbh everyone should break the law then go to prison.. its a easier life there lol.. free food, free shelter, no bills, no tax, no rent / mortgage..

at the end of the day its allways going to keep rising, as it allways has done.. a litre of petrol was 10p 40 years ago,

and iirc its sposed to stop rising by 2011 (well thats when the credit crunch is supposed to end)

Luke
7th July 2008, 15:17
By 2011 we will be all unemployed and skint.

Way to go tbh!

MikeCracknell
7th July 2008, 15:54
Well well well ;)

I am still glad I get 360 miles out of £40 off of fuel, plus I didn't have to outlay a MASSIVE amount in the short term to save on fuel in the very very very long term.

That what the government are thinking - everyone is gonna sell up and get more efficient cars that cost a lot more....the average Joe Public isn't gonna sell his car that cos £3k to get a more fuel/tax friendly car for £6k+, just to save about £100 a year on road tax. In the very long term, perhaps over about 40 years, forking out in the first place may be worth it, but how many of us keep our cars for more than 5 years, let alone 40?! lol!

Luke
7th July 2008, 15:56
It's WELL obvious that statment is aimed at me Mike.

Danr
7th July 2008, 15:57

Yeah tax is a bastard and petrol isn't great but tbh i wouldn't go back in time and not buy it.

Doesnt really bother me all that much.. at the end of the day, everyone is in the same boat..

If you enjoy having a bigger engined car, just have to work that little harder to afford it.. if you want something bad enough you'll get it.. I run my VTS and 600cc motorbike.. just fine.. tax increase is only affecting cars produced after 2001 right? Mine is a 98' model. :P

I wouldn't sell a car because of an extra £100 a year on tax on a vts and many other cars, thats saving less than £10 a month if you was really tight for cash!
