Ok heres the story:

Sold some items on ebay which were paid for in advance by cheque - which cleared.

Buyer stated that it might be a while before he could collect (no problem)

Buyer called on Thursday to see if he could collect the parts this evening - not possible as i work lates on a tuesday which i stated to him.

Get a call this afternoon to say this bloke had turned up unannounced, taken the parts which he had paid for but also taken some which he hadnt (not paid for these additional parts)

Now im at a bit of a decision to make:

What shall i do with regards to feedback on ebay etc given that i want to avoid getting negative feedback if i make negative comments (even though i can now only click at worse a 'neutral' comment) with ebay now disabling negative feedback issuing for sellers.

Could anything be done by ebay?

Are these any other sensible alternatives?

I'd already have been round his to collect the parts that weren't his. And he wouldn't have got shit without me breifing people at home about it anyway.
Pretty rude really that he turned up.

The parts are at a shared garage, the parts were sold on behalf of the owner who happened to be in the garage at the time.

Me being at work and being uncontactable by him had no idea exactly what parts were supposed to be being collected and stupidly gave him the benefit of the doubt.

The other issue in addition to this is that the buyer lives in Carlisle which is a huge journey away from me here in the midlands.

I do of course have the blokes name, home and mobile number, and ebay username

How much are the parts he nicked worth?

AlexR

how much are the parts worth? basically, ebay won't do fuck all, doubt the police will either. have to deal with it yourself, if it's worth it.

Mr_Willy

just report him to ebay, and u might even get some cash back from ebay, contact him first though.

The parts are off an old Austin 8 (1939) which technically arent worth a great deal, but at the same time i very much doubt theyre easy to get hold of these days and these items could have been sold to another ebayer pending collection or anything which would have got me into a bit of a pickle

I have sent the ebayer the following message...

Hi Richard, after getting home from work tonight i have been somewhat surprised that you turned up today to pick up the parts given that id emailed at the weekend stating that i was unable to change my work shifts and would thesefore be unavailable.

Secondly i was informed that with the rear axle and 2 steering columns you also took 2 centre horn units which were not part of the sale and were thesefore not paid for. Both of these parts have been paid for by another ebayer for which i would request the return of these items in sound condition.

I will await your reply before making further enquiries.

Regards,
Matt

Thats a bit cheeky of him, if he's a decent guy he's probably taken them in error and should return them.

Could have been a mistake?
If all the parts were together, he could have just taken them and left.

As you've already done, I would have emailed him first to see what the response is.

If you don't hear anything, then phone him?

Then if no reply, just report it to ebay.

Sammy-Boy

Or just report it to the Police although Ebay I suppose would try to get them back...

Ebay/Paypal would be no use there imo. Same goes for the police.

Best bet would be get in contact with him (as you have done) wait for a response, and if he refuses to return them or doesn't contact you back at all... then decide if the parts are worth enough for you to go to a small claims court for. :y:

Pay my fuel and i'll go smash his f*cking face in....

On a serious note, try reason with him and get him to post the parts back to you?

Mr_X
9th July 2008, 00:13
done the right thing imo, get him to drop the parts to your preferred location or pay for the delivery. if he doesnt reply soon i would call him, you wana get this sorted asap, the longer you leave it the worse it all get. ebay/paypal are crap in a crisis, its just a big pain in the arse.

well i wouldnt go to the police...they dont do anything these day :( i got robbed off some little cunt from here, brought an engine and it didnt turn up...told the police 3 weeks ago...still nothing.

you done the right thing by emailing him...then try ringing him. if no luck there either contact ebay or go to his house. would decide quickly as he could sell the parts and deny taking them
