Want to earn some cash then read this.
Hi all well im sure most of you know about my ice problem by now, but for them that dont here goes,
i have just bought a brand new amplifier to power my two front component speakers with tweeters and crossovers.
any way all i seem to get when ive got music playing is a really bad whinning noise caused by interference and it gets even worse when i accelerate or turn the steering wheel. also when i turn the gain up on the amplifier.
ive tried everythink and now ive given up on it big time so if any of you do ice for a proffesion or are really good with ice and think you can do it get in touch with me and we can arrange it and a price.
thanks all.

sounds like your running all your cables down one side of the car mate. seperate the power cable away from the rca cables and you should be sorted

have yor you swaped rca output on the head unit ive found this problem is normal caused by a blow rca track in the heading or rca cable

ldavies
9th July 2008, 18:24
ye ive even tried that as well buddy.
tried another full set of wiring as well.
still no joy

Personally as well i wouldnt have put your power cable direct to the battery. I would have attached it to the fuse box and also ran it through the grommet lower down in the engine bay.

ldavies
9th July 2008, 18:27
ye its attached to a fuse box mate, you just cant see it cos its in the fuse box si it dosent get damaged.

liam_b

ye ive even tried that as well buddy.
tried another full set of wiring as well.

have you;
tryed another headunit?
tryed cleaning and sanding the connections for the batery and alternator?
tryd another amp?

Personally as well i wouldnt have put your power cable direct to the battery. I would have attached it to the fuse box and also ran it through the grommet lower down in the engine bay.

disconect the battery terminals clean them up then unbolt the battery earth fron the chassie and gearbox sand them unbolt the the wires from the alternator and sand them if you still have the noise then it proberly going to be a surpresser in the alternator so new alternator or get your refurb

does the noise change pitch when you turn your light on?

ldavies
9th July 2008, 18:59
thanks for that liam_b will try it.
i think thats the only thing that i havent tried so far.
ive only noticed it change pitch when the cars running when i accelerate, turn the steering wheel or turn the gain up on the amplifier.
thanks for your help buddy, appreciate it

I see you have trapped the power cable under the battery clip thing. This is not a good way to do it!

You see that little black box above the battery, to the right of the brake fluid, under the red fuel cut off button, take the cover off, then you will see a small (M6) bolt which you can attatch the cable to. You will need to crimp a ring terminal on the end of it though, then trap this termial behind the bolt.

Take a pic of you're earth lead too mate please!:y:

coonper here is picture of my earth lead, its underneath the rear seats.
inside that fuse box you mentioned earlier ive found the bolt, its got some cable running to it. not too sure what it is tho mate.

Mmm, earth looks okay to me!

Yes, that bolt should have a cable attatched to it. However, when you unbolt it, the cable is built into the nut, so it doesnt all go horribly wrong! Lol

Just unbolt it, then clamp you're cable behind it!:y:

Make sure the battery is earthed properly mate! Might be worth unbolting it, then sanding down the metal and bolting it back on.

dont suppose youve got a picture of yours have you coonper.

still no joy? thought you had bought something which fixed it?

Lozza_vtr
9th July 2008, 21:18
Sounds like you are having a right nightmare. Have you tried using a "Noise Suppressor / Ground Loop Isolator". It might make a difference, never had to use one myself but you never know.

liam_b
9th July 2008, 21:22
lozza just gave my an idea get a length of wire and ground your headunit to where your amp is grounded plus with your amp earth put it under the bracket for the rear seat will give it better connection

DJDannyB
9th July 2008, 21:24
nice idea. worth a try

ldavies
10th July 2008, 16:59
liam_b what wire do i need to use and where abouts on the hu does it need to be.
thanks mate

ldavies
10th July 2008, 17:00
is there any point in having an amplifier if im going to have the gain turned all the way down because it dosent do the whinning noise when the gains fully down.

liam_b
10th July 2008, 17:06
tbh having an amp is alot better than using the built in amp on the headunit its gonna be worth it once this noise is sorted

you wanna get the earth wire off the back off the heading should be black if you cut it on the headunit iso or if you cut the saxo loom it should be yellow (might be different on your model) just cut that wire then put a long peice of wire on it and earth it to your head unit this some times stops earth loops (aka noises)

ldavies

ye ive already got one mate.
ive gor the rca isolator and one that goes under bonnett.
the one under bonnett did naff all and the rca one has reduced it but the sounds no good, seems to have an affect with the sound.

pictures below mate.

Uv probably tried this but... Isnt the earth connector part meant to be underneath so it gets a good connection with the body of the car? Doesnt look like its sanded down much where the metal touches the body

DJDannyB
11th July 2008, 09:55
i was thinking the same. :S

Noddy
11th July 2008, 10:08
Thats a very good point, put the Terminal ring direct to the body under the bracket (use a washer to pack out the gap) that may help on the earth side of things :)

ldavies
11th July 2008, 16:55
well everyone ive got day off work tomorow so going to get stuck in to it and see if i can figure the problem out.
thanks for the replies on the earth cable, going to sand it down again tomorow and try that.
i got told that if i take my fan belt off that way i will be able to tell if its interference from the alternator.
also got told to check all my earths from the battery, etc.
will get back to you all tomorow and let you know if its sorted, or if the amps getting ragged out, lol.
