just disconnect the battery. then do what you have to. but once the new steering wheel is on the airbag light will be on.

be careful thoough, the airbag is an explosive and can still deploy even when disconnected

i done mine a few years ago and im not too sure if every car will be the same as mine or not so i wont be responsible if it goes pear shaped. as i done it a while ago i cant be 100% on everything so se it as a rough guide.
how i done mine: first off disconnect the battery (as said earlier). i left mine for about 1 hour cos i made a bacon sandwich. then i undone the 2 torx bits underneath the steering wheel. i found that mine didnt come right out but it might be different for other cars. then lift the airbag out, be careful cos it might still be live, as said earlier. there should be an orange wire which has a connector to the wheel. un clip it then undo the big torx bolt in the middle and the wheel should come off. i cut the wire back as much as i coul but thinking back it would probably be best to undo the top and bottom surrounds and take it out properly. you can then line up the boss and then put the bolt back and then put the wheel on it. you might find that the new wheel isnt level as you drive so you will need th undo the big torx bolt and adjust it accordingly. next step is the srs module. to get to it you need to lift the gear lever surround and there should be a screw or torx bolt underneath. undo it and turn the console 90 degrees so ti is out of the way. there should be a big metal bracketgoing from under the dash to the floor, under some carpet. cut the carpet behind the bracket so you can access the srs module. unclip the orange connector and tape it up so it doesnt earth out or anything. put everything back and bobs your uncle, except in my case where bobs my dad.
ill put some pics up soon as ive got to take my dash out soon but heres a few showing the boss.http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa70/tobomoto/IMG_0252.jpg

bit of tape over the light is much easier imo :p

that seemed more difficult to me! i didnt want to take the dash out but i know roughly how to do it now, if i needed to do it again.

you can allways just ignore all flashing lights in the dash
on my lil 1.1 i have airbag flashing
the ecu light does occasionally (its fooked basicaly)
and my immob light does sometimes as ive butchered it after breaking my key

just dont look under the speedo haha

i only ignore mine as i have a new engin on the way
its not a good idea to ignore flashing ecu light haha
but for the aribag its ok

Or to stop the airbag light coming on you could just find out the resistance from the airbag circuit using a multimeter then replace airbag with the correct ohm resistor.
