View Full Version : OCD anyone?

dynebaruk
13th July 2008, 15:44
As title says really...

I don't know if it's an OCD but I NEVER use a cup/plate/ spoons etc. if they've got any marks on them at all. I rinse them with boiling hot water from the kettle before I use them too.

Also before I go to bed I write down everything that's on my mind on a little piece of paper and keep it next to the bed. When I wake up I bin it then.

I wash my hands alot, not like every 10 minutes but I constantly wash them when I'm near a sink :S

Doubt thats OCD but its a little odd, I could do with writing everything down thats on my mind, my brain won't hold it all and by the morning Ive forgot.

It's OCD for sure... I have it too... everything always has to be neat and ordered. My toolbox looks like the day it was bought, and I hate it when other people touched it.

Same thing went at school, my pencil case was always ordered... once beat the living tar out of someone when they touched it, badly enough to get them put in hospital. Funny old world!

Unfortuanalty;

If i use a light switch i have to turn it on/off with one hand then the other

Using car indicators, when turning right i always have to indicate left, i.e. when i click it down i have to click it to the top and vice versa

Change gear with left hand take it out of gear and put it in with my right...

Can stand germs, if i touch anything i think could be slightly dirty including a table etc i have to wash it/get a replacement

Mainly whatever i do with one hand has to be done with the other /an even number of times

Yes, im a freak :y:

What do you write?

Anything really, even if it's not something that I've got to do. Like if I just watched football before I went to bed I'd write down something like:

- Man United won.

But I'd have other stuff on the list too like:

- Car has oil leak
-Uni tomorrow
- Cinema tomorrow night

I love having stuff in order too, like with all my deodrants.

One line of lynx deodrants.
One line of Nivea deodrants.
One line of multivitamins and other tablets.
One line of lynx shower gel.
etc. etc.

All of them have the labels facing the front and go from biggest to smallest.

In fact, it's kind of annoying me right now because they aren't lined up right and one of the lynx shower gels is nearly empty which makes it look kinda stupid.

Volume on the car stereo has to be on an EVEN number...

Mobile phone & keys in right trouser pocket, wallet in left trouser pocket, can't have it vice versa....

All labels facing front and as said by others everything in side order (i'm especially bad for that when lining books up for instance)...

On my key ring, I have my car key & fob, then I have front door key, garage key and garage padlock key - I have to have them 3 keys in size order (garage key (smallest) padlock key (middle) and front door key (largest) and they have to have to face the same way (i.e the straight edge of the keys have to be in line with each other)...

well i work as a psych nurse and OCD is a very serious condition

but i think everyone suffers a little bit of compulsive or obsessive behaviour so dont be worried

in my opinon from my experience with the illness working with people who have it

i think it becomes an illness or a problem..if the obsessions are affecting your everyday life in a negative or bad way then it would be advisable to look for help and see a g.p

potatopete
13th July 2008, 18:41
All these aren't OCD as such (I'm not a Doc or anything) but I reckon its more to do with how the brain operates under normal circumstances. Everyday things in your life have to have some sort of order otherwise everything would be one hell of a mess.

As said, if it doesn't affect your everyday life, then its not actually OCD - just your brain's way of sorting out everything that's going on.

By the way, I always count the number of steps when going up AND down stair cases, even though for the same staircase its gotta be the same number - and I always count the number of steps I take across a room, or pavement, or corridor or car park etc etc.

Its bloody annoying but something I cant not do. Again, probably just the brain doing what it does.

SamW
13th July 2008, 18:48
Examples of these tasks are repeatedly checking that one's parked car has been locked before leaving it, turning lights on and off a set number of times before exiting a room, or repeatedly washing hands at regular intervals throughout the day

Wiki ftw...

I talk to myself whilst working on electrics (such as installs, PC maintenance(major), general wiring etc to help me remember where things are etc and to double check everything)

I always check for phone, keys, wallet when going out (and faceplate for headunit when i use the car)

I can be a pain in the arse with cable tidying! (although sometimes i leave it be if its not permanent)

The way files are stored on my computers and server is very intricate - everything is sorted into its own folder/sub folder/ sub sub folder etc. and backups HAVE to be done weekly or twice weekly!

All of my knifes in my roll for work etc have to be in a certain order/ right way round other wise i think something is missing!

DVD's are all in alphabetical order as well - CD's arn't though :err:

Half of these aint even an OCD.

Having a bath to a certain temp lol. Thats just how you prefer your bath.
Talking to yourself when doing something lol. Not an OCD.

I have it, and it fucking drives me up the wall.

I have to have everything done before i go to bed. Knowing they is something to do in a morning results in not been able to sleep.

My PC, laptop and mobile phone have to share the same wallpaper.

If something is out of line in my bedroom i have to get up and move it. So its perfectly lined up with something else.

My seats in the car have to be in the exact same postion and if someone moves them when they get out before i drive anywhere i have to get out and line the seats up.

All the mail from the last 6 month is saved and organised in company order in a big folder.

If i start something it usually results in much bigger job like putting clothes away, Normally result in putting them in 'type' order, then sorting all my tshirts, socks and boxers out. Then onto another wardrobe to sort out all my shirts and ties.

Then ive got all the usual stuff like lining things up in size order, checking then double checking things.

Some nights i actually lay in bed for like 3 hours thinking about it, but not actually thinking about anything. If taht makes sense.

It all does my bastard head in.

I wouldn't say I'm OCD but everything has be organised - like for instance my wardobe is in order starting from left to right - work shirts, jean/trousers, t-shirts, jumpers, suits and then ties.

When putting stuff in my pocket - wallet in right back pocket, keys in left and phone in right.

TV has to be on volume 14- 16 for when I've got my PS3 on or watching a DVD.
Then Volume 20 or 22 when I'm watching TV with my Soundsystem pluged in to it.

Shoes in my Bedromm have to be in order.
Slippers- Casual/ Driving Shoes- Smart Black Trainers- Steel Toe Cap.

DVD's have to be in a certain Order same with PS2 and PS3 Games!

CD Player voulme in the car has to either be at 30 or 40 (Not a very loud CD Player!)

Lol, I have a few.

When I go to bed, if my Mouse and Keyboard are exactly straight on the table next to my bed, I can't sleep, so I have to get out of bed and make them level.

My dinner mat has to be even with the edge of the Table.

If Posters or Pictures on the wall aren't straight, I have to level them out as soon as possible.

I can't watch TV if the Remote Control is in view, it has to be somewhere where I can't see it.

Weirdo :P
