Do you pay for parking at the Excel centre?

Also, have you gotta pay the congestion charge I presume?

I'd assume so. Like last year though I'll park my car at my nan's place in Wandsworth and take the underground from there. Its a right mission to drive anywhere near the Excel..

Luke
16th July 2008, 09:29
Well what if you get the train to say London Kings Cross and then underground it there?

Jazz
16th July 2008, 09:38
Yep that sounds sensible to me. Much better than trying to get any closer by car. When going into the denser, more central parts of london, public transport is the only real way.

Luke

Train sounds a joke - £122.00 return.

Which tube station do you go to? My uncle lives at East Finchley, I could leave the car there, get tube from Finchley station into Excel area?

Then it will cost me £40 fuel + £10 ticket + Tube + Food.

Jazz
16th July 2008, 09:47
Yeah that sounds a lot better. :y:

I usually take Clapham junction station. Usually people drive as close in as they can and then underground it from there. East Finchley should be alright I think, although yo might have to make a couple changes(..?)

Luke
16th July 2008, 09:48
So get off at Clapham Junction for the show?

I don't mind a couple of changes, tbh the Underground is a good system and pretty easy to use.

Take food with you, its not the cheapest
I went in 2006 got the train from Basildon was like £10

Jazz
16th July 2008, 09:49
No I use clapham junction to get to the excel.... should be worth it, tubes are usually good. Prince Regent DLR station and Canary wharf are close stations...

Scattle

Bit of info here on tube, says you can use the DLR

Repped both of you.

Cheers lads, more than likely will be going - leave here at say 7.30am, get to London for 11 and then onto tube so should arrive for lunchtime.

I'm not entirely sure yet, depends what day my dad can take off work. Most likely on the Friday though...

Luke
16th July 2008, 10:16
Hmm, I don't know which will be best.

I'm thinking Thursday.

Jazz
16th July 2008, 10:21
will probably be less busy on thursday, so not a bad choice... either way, should be some tasty motors on display. Remember to keep your driver's licence on you, so you can take part in the Mazda Zoom-zoom challenge. you get to put either a MX5 OR RX8 through its paces over a small go-kart circuit for a few mins, good fun! Last year I forgot to take my licence, this time I won't be making the same mistake.

Luke
16th July 2008, 10:22
Really? Do you pay for it?

Will just my photocard one do, I have lost my paper copy and I need to order a new one.

Yeah, I'm thinking Friday will be busier.

I don't believe you pay for it no- there was also an off-road experience where they take you up a near vertical ramp in a Discovery or Landcruiser, but you sit as a passanger for that. This year I heard a rumour they might be doing quick customer rides in Caterhams, although I can't confirm that.

Just keep your photocard on you at all times :y:

Cheers mate, sounds like an interesting day out.

Photocard is ALWAYS in my wallet :) but if you go Thursday, let me know yeah?

Jazz
16th July 2008, 10:30
I'll be sure to mate :)

Chris
16th July 2008, 12:06
I'll be getting the coach to Canary Wharf, then the tube to Canning Town, then the DLR from there to Custom House station which is a little walk from the ExCeL.

I don't think ExCeL is within the congestion charge zone... that tends to be more West London, whereas ExCeL is in East London (about a mile from where I work).

Chris :)

My Dad and I went in 06, we were parked in some Hanger and they provided a Park and Ride bus thing..

We didn't pay the conjestion charge for that though..

Where am I supposed to park then??!

Please note: The map that is on the ExCeL website doesn't seem to include Canary Wharf..... Canary Wharf would be where the DLR (double green line) and the Jubilee line (Grey line) cross over just above South Quay stop.

Chris :)
