Well after owning the Vtr for a year, i thought it was time for a change, was a great car to me and enjoyed it a lot.
Was looking for a Vts straight away but after looking at insurance quotes i found a Clio 172 to be cheaper so thought id treat myself and here is what i got:

Planning to lower -40mm on springs in the very near future and then at a later date get some coilovers. Also rims need a refurb so may get another colour. Then finally i may get a yozzasport stealt zaust.

Nice one Hopcraft :y: Personally don't like the wheels on the clio now always looked plastic-y to me
But sounds like you've got the plans sorted :A:

They dont make 172 FF they're just a "172."
Needs cup spoiler and splitter so she looks like a fast one ;)
Looks lovely mate.

18th July 2008, 10:37
When you convert Luke mate!
You'll be waiting a while ;)
Insurance for me on a 172 is £2,000 FC....3yrs NCB too.
Peejous
18th July 2008, 10:38
Sucks to be you. Try a different company.
Karl
18th July 2008, 10:38
That is shocking!
I dont even pay that much!
Luke
18th July 2008, 10:39
Tell me about it, I ain't gonna spam Hopcrafts thread though after this.
It's strange - a VTS is £1,200 FC for me, a VTR is £800 FC but then Clio whacks right up. I don't think there is much lower tbh..
Clouds_mate
18th July 2008, 10:40
My Clio is the same price to insure as an R32.
Work that one out lol

chears for the comments..
Well a Clio Sport is a good upgrade from the saxo tbh, and its french, so thats why many people are changing :)
And to the comment that said about the interior, the seats are amazing, so comfy.
Dan R Plans are stated :o Will wack a photoshop up soon, looks good :)
All the insurance comments, PAH,, i pay 1150 FC 1yncb and just turned twenny, rather good me thinks.

18th July 2008, 16:26
Very nice mate ...
I'll be cashing in on this Clio ownership soon enough.
Hopcraft
18th July 2008, 16:28
good choice matey, although i would have like to owned a vts for a couple of weeks to see the differences from a VTR.
Ferg
18th July 2008, 17:29
Very true .... I had a 1.1 before my VTS so was a big step up. But growing up beckons and I dont think I can turn up to work after uni in a loud as feck VTS. That's when Clio powaaaaar comes into play ... fun, but grown up.
Hopcraft
18th July 2008, 18:04
Another reason i got the clio, because i want to have a car for a long while now rather than a year, and i know im still young but fuck having a saxo at 23/24, no offence to anyone :O
Hopcraft
18th July 2008, 18:35
Had a little play in Photoshop today as i was bored, here are my results, hopefully this time next year it should look like this.. need some coilovers but cant afford them at the moment, so only springs for now.

Hopcraft
11th October 2008, 10:54
As some one's bumped this, ill say there has been an update.
Got it lowered a couple of week's ago, -40mm on springs, hard as fuck, but look's so much better.
Also in the midst of a group buy on coilover's so hopefully get those sorted in the new year.
Also got a new panel filter from K-tec Racing's own brand, and it's a ton better, for 36 quid. Fuel economy is better (begger's beleive, but true) and feels much smoother as these two litre's have a lumpy idle.
Will get photo's tomorrow or monday of it nice and clean.
And dsh; white's out the window and going for anthracite 2118's, when fund's allow after coily's :)

Hopcraft
2nd December 2008, 18:21
It does sit right...ish, but im still going lower, without doubt. Not by much, but i can't live on these Apex springs.
Some FK coilovers will be here after christmas without doubt, just been skint due to cam belt and various other things that have to come first.
Yes Cal, im definally going to get some darker wheels, was thinking of refurb/spray but want a different style, and 2118's are the only way to go.
But at the moment im stuck with it like this after the brand new rad decided to piss itself. Hopefully Angelworks will get it sorted asap.

Havn't really updated but i added a new small number plate to the front which makes it look a lot cleaner. Also got some coilovers ordered so should fit them soon-ish. Then going to get an exhaust at some point too.
Also had it on the rollers afer i got matched inlets. 167bhp before, then 175bhp after. Very good mod.

Chears, yeah fantastic mod dan, considering clio sport engine are shite for tuning, matched inlets are near best mod for their money i'd say.
Tuning a clio sport, is nothing compared to a saxo. Only need breathing mods on a saxo and you get a good 10-15 bhp.
Coilovers coming Tuesday :)

Well after the West Mids rolling road meet at Leamington, i headed over to birmingham to get my coilovers fitted by a well respected member from Cliosport.net.
The front still needs to go down a touch, but ill be getting 4 x toyo proxes' all round then ill get a full geometry to set camber heights toe etc.
But here's how it looks at the moment.

As the weather was s**te on sunday i thought i'd wax my car, something I HATE doing. But was bored. So Maxi suds'd it, then miricle dried, then srp'd and finally Nattys paste wax.
Also fitted a cup spoiler that i got a month or two ago, but only just had time this week to use the spray booth and oven at work to get it icelandic (body colour).
And also took my car to Jamsport two or three weeks back to get it geom'd after i got my V-maxx coilovers fitted. Got them to wind it down a bit since the last time i put up pictures..still want to go lower on the front though.
Sorry for the barn pic's, but the weather didn't perk up.

To be honest with you, its the best upgrade from a vtr, if you dont get an vts.

Not quite a fisheye, no. Wide-angle, doesn't sound quite so appealing though ;)

Well I haven't updated this in a while, and shit loads has happened in-between times. But anyway, driving to Bordeaux on friday for two weeks in the sun, so a good 1400 mile round trip, going to be fun.
Heres the new rimz, OZ F1's from the Ph1 Clio Sport, powder coated anthracite and wrapped in 120 pounds worth (camskill) of Toyo T1-R's, bargain.

Well this progress thread was a shambles, but to be fair documenting a non saxo on a saxo site is going to be a shambles anyway.
If anyone is interested a full progress thread was made on Cliosport.net

Anyway, last few pictures, and it's currently being put back to standard, cup spoiler is off and sold and putting standard wheels exhaust and suspension on this weekend.

Well it never did sell, god knows why, cracking car to be honest.
Sold the Cup spoiler for a tidy amount and also put my standard exhaust back on and sold the Ktec Stealth.
Here it is as of the other day.

I'm sure it will be a good upgrade for some one on here. Only wanting a measly 2.4k

not a bad price for a great car. They are surprisingly better to drive and more frugal on fuel than the saxo.

I know it's my own car, but i worked for a company that buy cars and pick them up. NOTHING, will come close to spec and speed for the money. Yet it still doesn't shift, i blame insurance to be honest. IMO the target market for this car is 19-27 year old ish, yet insurance companies make it difficult for the lower end of that age bracket to buy one.
Talking about fuel, when i first bought it in 2008, and petrol was at a normal price under 100p i was getting better mpg than my VTR.
Can average a good 45mpg on a run, and 35 mpg around town.
Can ramble for ages, but if anyone suggests any car i will fight the corner for the Cliosport.

Group 16.
Although cheaper to insure one of these than a VTS (in my case). And a whole load better, IMO.

Really ? I much prefer these. They are 15's instead of the orginal 16's, so A LOT cheaper on tyres.

Completely agree, but to no avail :(
