Hi everyone, i've been a member of Sax-P now for quite sometime, and never got round to actually starting a progress thread. I have taken pleantly of pictures of my car over the period that i've owned it so i'll try and put them in order and talk you through what i've done.
Ok my first car... was a (now dont laugh to hard) was a fiesta 1.1 quartz, obviously in a "quartz blue" colour and was a "special" addition because it had a sunroof whhoooooo hoooooo!!
was in fact a good little first car, but unfortunately i stuck my nose out too far on a roundabout and a petrol tanker collected me on its rear bumper, heres the damage...
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/IMG_1176.jpg
The driver of the petrol tanker stopped and took my details and it went through insurance and i lost my NCD, even though there was almost no damage to the tanker at all (just a slightly bent rear tail light) my car was damaged enough that it wasn't worth the repair bill, so i sold it on ebay for £65... (bargain)
The Saxo
I started looking for a new car and had already been saving for a new one at the time, ( i know i wanted to get rid of my old fiesta for a newer car, but i didn't really want to destroy it )
I looked into saxo's, as i'd always quite liked the looks of them but found the VTS would be far to expensive on insurance with zero NCD. The VTR it was then, looked at a few a finally set my heart on a Black Y reg (2001) VTR with 18,000 on the clock totally standard.
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/firstday3front.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/firstday2rear.jpg
Really fell in love with the ol' VTR and was impressed with its "performance" (well i did move from a 55BHP fiesta to a 100BHP Saxo) and the handling.
As time went by i noticed more and more VTRs the same as mine around where i live, so decided on modding the car a little, to help show some individually.
The first was a dimma grill, again now every tom, dick and harry have one, but at the time it made my Saxo feel special again
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/dimmagrill.jpg
So first mod, so good not too tacky etc... but my second one "wtf" was i thinking
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/Rearlights2lexass.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/Rearlightslexass.jpg
Black lexass lights, its amazing what you'll buy on ebay when your first starting out modifying a car, lets just say they didn't last long...
Lesson Learnt
My New rear lights were, standard Mk1 rear clusters sprayed black with a coat of clear lacquer. I really liked these lights, and still have them on now (even tho i have to change them back to standards for the MOT)
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/rearlightsblack.jpg
Alloys
Next change was alloys, i dont mind the original VTR wheels but i felt the car need a bit of a change...
I looked for a set of 16" alloys as i wanted the wheels to be bigger than the standards but still fit into the arches with no problems.
I bought these TSW reflex alloys, with 195 40 16 tyres so i knew they would fit, even when i finally got round to lowering the car. Sorry for the poor picture quality in these pics... damn camera phone.
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/TSW1.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/TSW3.jpg
Also at the time of ordering the alloys, i also treated myself to a set of Morette headlights. I'd always liked the style of them and never saw them on that many saxos.
I didn't just stick them straight on the car, but instead waited for my mate Tim, to spray them up for me.
A week later i was ready to stick them on too.
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/morettes.jpg
It felt great at first have the morettes on, however one night coming home from work, saw a black saxo coming up behind me with morettes headlights on too... And it was a VTS (i felt sooooooooooo inferior lol)
More Mods...
Ok so now im getting to the point where i know alot of you are gonna say "what have you done" yep i got myself a body kit. I really wanted to get a full dimma kit and do things proper... but the dimma body parts where not affordable at the time. (i know your really thinking things are going downhill now...)
To i decided to get a Saxo Demon Kit from Essex racing. First off Great company to deal with, fast postage and the kit was very well packed.
Took the kit round to Tims to get it sprayed up, went back a week later to drop my car off for him to fit it for me, and also inspect the bumpers he'd done for me... man i just wish i could spray like him they looked sweet as fook.
Anyway left him the keys friday night, and went home waiting for a phone call to say he's fitted it and its ready to go... Phone rang, but wait its only 11am surly not even me ol' pal Timmy could fit it all by then?
Sure enough, no he couldn't. Turned out the bumpers when lined up with the cars bodywork where not flush, far bloody from it on the rear bumper. So tim offered to smooth the rear bumper into the rear arches and do the best he could.
Just goes to show dont get a cheaper body kit and think it will fit perfect...
Tim fitted the front bumper and this how it looked once i got it Home...
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/frontbumper2firstdone.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/frontbumperfirstdone.jpg
Next weekend i dropped it of to Tim again to try and sort the rear bumper out. Well time went by a few days later and Tims saying its all on and ready for me to pick it up... I can't wait to see it (like a kid at christmas)
I also got the Mesh at the front changed to black to help tone it down and bit as silver was a "little in ya face" and the sidestrips sprayed too.

Sax-P
I was really happy with my car, that the main thing for anyone modding their car. But it was now (march 2008, even tho i first registered in October 2007), i really started getting more involved on saxperience.com (designing signatures, doing photoshops etc)
I noticed people were not going for the whole body kit thing anymore, but a more smart subtle saxo...
I'd spent to much money on my car to just pull everything off and do what was popular, plus that was the reason i was trying to make my car standout and be special to me. So i stuck with it, but took notice of what other people were doing... T-cutting badges, 106 Gti interiors etc, damn i had to get me one of these ;) and start changing those damn VTR seats. hahaha
Right so my first Sax-P mods were, T-cutting my rear badges and de-wipering the rear screen. I also Designed a custom door badge and Chris-IOW sort them out for me (these look great so if you need a badge i've sure he can sort you out, and if you need help with a design drop me a PM)
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/stealthbadges.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/stealthbadgesoncar.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/de-wiperrear.jpg
I also looked into getting some custom car mats with my design on them...
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/customMats1-1.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/customMatsDetail.jpg
GTi Interior
Great news! Finally got myself a 106 GTi interior on ebay, I couldn't wait to fit it in and start enjoying the "comfort"
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/GtiinteriorEBAY.jpg
That picture is actually from the ebay listing, but the next few are after i installed the seats (thanks to Pred for your help and great guide for fitting these) I sourced a new gear knob and door cards from a 106 quicksilver, The black and silver gear knob just suited the interior perfect, and the quicksilver doorcards looked spot on and also just had the "normal door handles" on the type with the electric mirrors built in (if you know what i mean)
Interior in, looks so smart from a distance or if your sitting in it. (love this picture as it makes the car look like its been lowered on my drive when backed in.)
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/frontnewbumpernotlowered.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/frontseats1.jpg
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/rearseats.jpg
I sold the original GTi door cards to SaxoMark here on Sax-P (pleasure to deal with you mate) and set about installing the quicksilver door cards to the car with the much loved half leather seats.
Cheers to Stevet for your help on fitting the 106 door cards to a saxo, was so much easier once i'd read your guide.

Lowering
I've had the car sometime now and done quite a bit to it, but it was still sitting on stilts... was time to lower it. I bought a full Gmax kit from an *online shop*, and some must of mucked up the order as i received TWO 55mm lowering kits...
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/Gmaxkit.jpg
Sold the second one on ebay, which helped pay for it to get lowered at the garage.
Before and after
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/sidenotlowered.jpghttp://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/sideLowered.jpg
Its ment to be dropped 55mm, but looks more like 40/45mm, not a bad thing as i can still get in the drive and over speedbumps without too much hassle.
Latest touches
At the moment i've just finished off my interior by spray the center console, lower console and air vents etc a gloss metalic black, look great in my opinion with the GTi interior.
Also painted the calipers yellow, and fitted one of stendogs ariels. Now all i want to do it get the wheels sprayed anthracite and the exhaust sorted too.

Thanks stendog - ariel looks great and i can still use the radio ( on the rare occasion i do, CDs/ MP3s FTW!)
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/Frontariel.jpg
Love how low my car looks when backed on the drive

Well its only been in the car two days, and so far i've had no problems. But i've added three coats of lacquer and let it fully harden off, Im hoping that'll be enough to protect it.
looks good mate - keep up the good work.
why you got a cussion on your drivers seat? you got 'bum grapes'?

Ah very observant MrHouston, The rear spoiler had scratchs on it ever since the day i bought it... looked like the guy before me took it through a car wash and the drier scraped it.
So in that picture i had it off and re-sprayed it

Finally got round to fitting my front fog lights the other weekend, got two in place at the moment, not 100% sure to fit the other two or not, whats your opinion?
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/stuff004.jpg
and secondly, driving home thrusdays afternoon my car got clipped in traffic by a guy in a Ford Galaxy. Basically he just rubbed the rear arch/bumber as he wanted to join my lane of traffic...

Thankfully not serious, got the T-Cut out and got rid of most of his paint... a few marks are still slightly visible at the moment pretty sure i can get those out when im polishing her up.

@ Lewball98 - Rear lights where bought off ebay for about £35, was a while back tho...
More recently i've removed those black lights for standards because the MOT was due, however had some problems with the morette headlights during the test and failed on headlight alignment, so stuck some standards back on... its been left like that ever since... the standard headlights have really grown on me, but i do miss the aggressive look of the morettes.
Also sorry to disappoint you Adam but all four fog lights are in the bumper

@ tay56 - yeah I agree, looked awesome with the morettes on, however I can't me arsed to put them back on the car to sell it, so will be selling them on ebay one day.
@ marcusd - Cheers mate, yeah I really like the kit (more so when I first got it) but now getting older (and wiser ;) ) I see the more negative sides of it ... its more like a snow plough atm, just 4 inches off the ground at its lowest point on the front bumper.
As for my car being in your top 5 saxo's, wow I'm honoured mate

The time has come to say goodbye to the Saxo :( however every cloud has a silver lining ;)
I've been looking to move on from the ol' VTR for sometime now (about a year) and in that time I've worked and saved (and been generally tight lol)
But now I've finally got what I'd been waiting for... a great example of an M3!
I knew I wanted a Silver Grey / Red Leather interior colour combo and also all the toy's too. So when this 54 plate turned up on autotrader I instantly fell in love with it.
Collected it last Saturday from the garage in Somerset and to say the 194 miles home was heaven, is probably the understatement of the decade! :D NeV is a VERY very Happy BoY!!
Anyway enough talk... heres some pictures after I first got it home and parked on the driveway...

I can't say i'll be be doing much to this car... only plans at the moment are
smoked front indicators
Angel Lights
possibly a CSL rear diffuser (colour coded)
and maybe a CSL bootlid...
I'll get some more pictures (inside and out) up once I get a chance to really have a good cleaning session on her.

Great project thread Nev. I love black cars, but they are just a absolute pain to keep clean, which is why i am NEVER having a black car again. Yours looked gorgeous after you machine polished it. Mine needs a good machine polish at the moment!
I'm not the biggest fan of morrettes but you have taken them off now anyway! The wheels are nice and the front bumper doesn't look too bad either. I went through a 'highly modified' stage when i had my silver saxo but think i much prefer the subtle look!
I hope you get a good price for your saxo because it is a lovely car and you shouldn't have that many problems selling it!

Few updates....
When I bought my M3 I did really want Piano Black trim... thankfully a guy on M3cutters was selling his - damn I nearly broke his hand off when I realised I could have them :D
Also installed some M-Tec metal race pedals, personally I think the M3 should come with these as standard... :S
Also managed to get my new tyres fitted to my new CSL wheels this weekend (complete with Black/White centre caps to finish the theme), first place I took them to couldn't manage to fit the 275/30/19 tyres without the possibility of damaging either the wheel or tyre :(
But Lepsons had no issues and I'm over the moon with the final outcome :D

Wow, thanks so much for the comments bud, :y: Means a lot.
Which BMW dealership do you work at? and as for saving up for an E92... nah not yet - I don't quite feel the looks of the newer M3. I'd love the 415 BHP and V8 engine... I was chatting to a guy with an RS4 while my tyres were being fitted, and he said the E90's V8 doesn't really have much of a V8 roar... a bit tinny sounding (however the rasp is part of the M3's character :y:)

I work at Sytner Harold Wood, cant see why you dont like the looks though, weve recently had the frozen gray M3 come in and they look the sex, also a matte black one that BMW has made, was hoping fot the GTS but as they are only bringing like 100 to england i very much doubt i will :n:
and i agree the noise isnt classic V8 roar but one of BMW M division trade marks is the rasp of their exhaust notes, have had an E92 M3 come in with a differnt exhaust sytem (not sure what) and was alot more classic V8 sound. But im lucky enough to have driven one and ive gota say, WOOOOOW :fcuk: so good, get some funny looks though, teenager driving a 60K car WTF.

Honestly if I saw you in a e92 M3 i'd be jealous as hell mate :D (in fact I'm jealous as you've had the pleasure to drive one ;) B4st4rd)
The looks of the e92 are slowly growing on me... just doesn't have quite enough aggression front end as it has at the rear, just my opinion atm - as I say thats slowing changing the more I see them.
I agree the Frozen Grey is an amazing colour, in fact so stunning it pi$$es all over Silver Grey like mine.
As for a next car I'd love a 997 Turbo or (fingers crossed) GT-R... but I'm dreaming at this moment in time.

have seen a few come in with some added splitters on the front bumper and the black grills and makes it look a bit more agressive, sure others have done more though, and 997 or a GT-R you have better plans for future cars than me :( or just deeper pockets haha

Hello mate, yes mines still going strong despite all this shite weather :( being extra careful with all this ice and snow... (traction control on 24/7 lol)
Great news to hear you've been in one :y: did you get the chance to drive it yourself? yes the power is quite amazing, seems never ending when you really let it go and hit 7,000 - 8,000 revs.

Haha Cheers mate, ditto for you too ;) nice E92 not a bad company car at all
The E46 has dropped in price a hell of alot so pretty cheap to buy now (alotta car for the money (got mine for just under 16k)) however its the running cost of Servicing, parts and fuel that's the real issue.
There was a problem with early E46 M3's with the Con rod bearing, which ment a recall on pre 2003 cars I think. (Mines a 54 Plate - Phew)
There was talk of issues with V10 engines I believe, however the E46 is a Straight 6 so no know issues as far as I'm aware its pretty much bulletproof if well serviced.
Ahh the RWD... I think its great, apart from in the shite weather of recent months :( I've left the traction control on and sport button off lol.
looks amazing mate! :y:

Depends on what kind of background you want, if you go round the back of dockside you can get some pics with the boats in the background, or the old dock shops.
Other side of the tunnel, can head out to either Hoo or can get right down by the river

Any tips for other places to get some nice shots in the area Rey?
..... however its the running cost of Servicing, parts and fuel that's the real issue.
T
I know about this with an M5. Buying it is the 'easy' part. They might become 'cheaper' secondhand, but still come with the associated running costs of the £50k original price tag.
Enjoy it.Looks fantastic.

Thankyou Andy, I know what you mean with the original oem wheels. Too many M3's have diamond cut / painted wheels and it ruins the look, I hope to get mine re polished up and maybe back on for summer.

But currently I still like the CSL wheels, still got to get the CSL diffuser fitted, and then buy the bootlid to match... then I'll be happier. But the bootlid might have to wait as I can see my next mod being a set of D2 coilovers.

I was looking for a set of Genuine CSL wheels at the time but at second hand £1000+ and anything between £1500-£1800 brand new I'm glad I got the Reps. Mind you you'd have to take a pretty good look to see they aren't genuine as they have the coding stamps etc ;) not bad for £500 delivered. (If you fancy a set I can point you in the right direction.)
Think I'll still stick with the D2 coilovers, heard great things and can get them for less than GAZ.
You'll be glad to hear the bootlid might have to be a genuine one, heard soo many story's of poor fitment. If you hear of anyone breaking a CSL let me know mate :y:

Have you thought of CSL front bumper/Splitter?
Glad to see you went manual and not SMG2!
I have also worked for BM in Australia, and CSL aside (im sure you understand ;))
One of the cleanest M3s i have seen! Id love to own one - played around with the e92 m3 + E46 CSL and all I can say is WOW! Although 2 completely different cars, I did have fun!

Hey mate thanks for the great comments, glad you like it.
The e92 is a little to refined and im still not 100% sold on it looks... the e46 shape is the best balanced design imo... and the M3 is a great all-rounder. The CSL is just simply something else...
I had the saxo for nearly 5 and half years... :fcuk: I loved it at first and enjoyed modding it through the time that I owned it, I still see saxos today and think to myself aaahhhhh  got a soft spot for it... but don't miss the rattles etc.
I've thought about the front CSL bumper, however not sold on it as I'd lose my Fog lights... and unfortunately the front splitter is a no no as I think it would catch on my driveway. :(

Really pleased with the steering wheel, my old one looked a little worse for wear... and this ties the interior together nicely.
I agree the little things car add up to make a big difference... this was my worry I didn't want to ruin the looks of the car but still establish my finger print on it.

Hi Ashley
No I'm just on cutters atm...
The steering wheel was retrimmed and thickened by Jack at royal steering wheels... his work is top notch. Had so many recommendations and you'll not be disappointed with his results. This only cost me £105! (I managed to have a friend locate me the imola red leather tho)

Cheers Rey, yeah I saw some pictures of your brothers Black e46 on cutters last night... Recognized the photo location :y: and his interior is so nice... never seen it before with black piping.
Well its been a while since my last update on here... had plenty of ideas and items to fit, finally pulled my finger out and got them fitted.
Interior updates...
Added some stunning Storm Motorwerks items, all of which are Titanium plated... really look the business. However the feel and weight of the Gear Knob, Handbrake, Sat Nav Knobs and Lighter plug need to be held to understand. The gear knob weighs in at 500g!!
Gives a better throw to the Manual gear box by adding that weight and lowing the shaft down.
Also painted my Harman Kardon Speaker Grills... they were loooking a little tired, so opted for Gloss black to match the interior trims.
Finally Paul installed a boot release button... more on this later...
http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/M3/IMG_4997-1.jpg http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/M3/IMG_0979.jpg http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/M3/IMG_4958.jpg

http://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r324/NeVSaX/M3/IMG_4950.jpg
Also planned on changing the rear discs to match the slotted fronts... adding in new ATE SuperBlue Brake Fluid and upgrade the Brake Hoses to Goodridge Braided lines. The Diff Oil, Cabin Filter and Air Filter were also replaced.
All jacked up...

Once all parts installed, Paul took my CSL bootlid and an extra set of front kidney grills to be painted by the guy he uses. I've seen Pauls car and the work carried out on it so I know those parts are in safe hands.
Got a phone call about a week later saying my parts were done and ready to collect. I shoot round to Paul's and pick them up within the hour!! :D
And onto how she looks today...
The colour match on both the lid and grills are spot on! really pleased with the results. Its also surprising how much difference they make to the car as a whole.

Thanks for all the comments... I know what you mean regarding the plates, less is more etc seriously thinking about losing the front plate all together and putting it in the front screen.
The red on the wheel will be staying, I understand not everyone will like it. Just ties the interior together and makes it a little different to others with imola leathers.
Really chuffed with the brakes, I was thinking about having them done in another colour... But stuck with the original yellow on black. Might get them changed at some point, I like them subtle so it matches in with the rest of the car.

Really appreciate the words bud, are you still inclined to go for an M3??
Not wanting the csl bumper as you say too much of a rep, and I wouldn't put the flippers on this standard bumper... they just look wrong.
I would like some sort of splitter, but fear I would struggle in and out of my driveway. It bad enough being dropped on the coilover adding more lip I can guarantee it would catch and scrape :(

Never been keen on the black edged grills, even though it would match the side grills... My friend Pete has black on his silver grey M3, he loves them! I just feel like it makes the kidneys too big... however he reckons the colourcoded ones make them look too small :D

Thanks alot Drew, seen yours and Claires threads in the past and the combined effort on the Evo is class.
You might be a little disappointed with the lack of torque in a M3 after the Evo, you don't get that kick up the ass like a turbo... however I'm sure the quality of interior and smiles for miles would help make up for it a bit. :y:
