View Full Version : Phase 2 with Pahse 1 headlights and grille

Basically, im after a VTS, but finding a tidy Phase 1 with low miles is like getting a blow job from a nun...
So, as i prefer the Phase 1 front end, i was wondering is it easy to make a Phase 2 look like its predecessor...?
Is it basically as simple as changing the headlights, grille, bonnet and wings, or is there a difference with the front panel and slam panel around the radiator that would make it alot more costly...?
All help appreciated
Cheers
Nicky

Could just get a MK1 and drop a MK2 engine in it??? or if you are really into DIY, get a mk1 and a mk1, and put all the mk2 bits on the mk1 body (like the axcles, engine, shocks etc...) just an idea :D

No, i want a late Saxo chassis with much less miles than most Phase 1s are running round with, but i think the newer headlights look queer, so would prefer not to have them...
Think its a matter or trial and error with fitting Phase 1 lights, wings, grille and bonnet to a Phase 2...
Was just hoping someone had tried this before and knows weither or not it fits properly without a sh!t load of work...

Simple job mate, could be pricey though. Will need two new front wings, new bonnet, new grille, new slam panel, new headlights. Then spraying. Fitting would be piss easy

You reckon its as easy as that Ben?
Headlights are £25 new, grille is £30, slam panel is about £65 and then its just the wings and bonnet...
Shouldnt be too expensive after all :D

Aye, im going to be buying the car within the next month or so, then starting work on her, so now that im a member i'll be putting up a progress thread.. Project will last 6-8months from start to finish and will hopefully turn out as something original...
Lets just say no rear seats, VERY subtle exterior mods, some subtle interior touches, a tidy install and a fair amoutn of engine work, yet left Naturally Aspirated... :)

Quick point, if your going down the NA route, single plug lumps eg MK1 and very early MK2s, seem to get better gains after camming than the 3 plug lumps of 2001 on mk2s

basically all VTS engines are the same, youll prob hear some people say that some have 130 brake which is shite. But what did change was the ECU, after 2000 ish the management changed from a one plug ECU to an ECU with three plugs going into it. These dont seem to get as good gains when cammed. But theyll be in the majority of MK2s.
Its not much different, only about 5-10 brake apparently

Ah right.
Was planning on the usual Supersprint 4-2-1, full S/S supersprint de-cat exhaust system, Samota Induction kit, get a mate to do a wee bit of work to the head and look at getting it remapped.
Would like to see 140 or so with that lot done..

wouldnt of thought you would get 140 with those mods, im just above that with 708s...
wouldnt attempt to do headwork yourself unless your mate has a lot of experience, ive read that some people make them worse, personally if i was doing headwork i would be calling qep

i have done a 2-1 conversion
there is a small amount of welding required to do it proplerly
as on the mark 1 the inner wing has an extra bracket on the front to lenghten it to suit the mark 1
easy to do though

You wouldnt happen to have a pic to show where this bracket is Alex, would you...?
Or a link detailing what you mean?
Cheers for that
