I've heard off some mechanics that if you mix half diesel with half cooking oil a diesel car will still run completely fine. Is there any truth in this or is it a load of crap? I personally have no idea lol

It is possible to run some diesels purely on cooking oil, but on a Saxo, I wouldnt recommend using a larger mix than 4 litres of diesel to 1 litre oil.

It wouldn't be on a Saxo, plus i'd never run it purely on cooking oil

Diesel is more forgiving than petrol if it goes wrong,
just start with richer mixtures and work down, soon as it doesnt sound right, top up with diesel.
Just keep a log of how much is in there bud.

my boss's dad puts it in his 106 diesel and has done for ages but gives its regular fuel filter change. ive heard its better on certain newer diesels than other and the manufactor will tell you or not it is. iirc older turbo diesels dont like it to much so b careful.

you dont need to put chips in it smells of watever the oil has been used for we had a van with it in and it stunk, we tryed biofuel in the vans and they cut out over 18 mph as it couldnt heat it fast enough

There is a few threads about this already, check for the ones Adsayer posted on cos he knows a few things about this veggie oil business lol
From what I can remember you need a Bosch fuel pump to use veggie oil, some cars have them standard some cars don't.

its not something you want to do on a modern diesel engine. Old mechanical diesels run vegi oil far better than a fancy modern engine.
If you want to save fuel, drive slower or buy a small petrol engine.
You have to be real careful that you don't gum up the injectors and pumps when using vegi oil. certain chemicals will break down those long fatty acid chains but you have to get the mixture right.

A bloke I used to know did this on his 2006 range rover sport 2.7 jobby... he told me that it needed regular fuel filter changes every 6 months I believe and it had to be 50% excactly in the mix (or more diesel) he could also buy it from a farmer up in York. So yes it is possible, but I didn't believe him at first.

Wouldn't try it on the newer, common rail diesels at all!
BUT, on the older Diesels with Bosch fuel pumps then it runs fine. I used to run my Rover 420 Diesel on it!
Unless you can get hold of some waste oil though from a chip shop there is little point now as veg oil in the shops has gone up in price (from 56p/litre to £1.19/litre in Tesco) and it actually gives less MPG than Diesel so now works out more EXPENSIVE!
