performance discussion, not reliabilty

saxo VTS low mileage standard

VS

audi a3 1.8t 20v 105k on clock and various dents on bodywork (pile of crap)

in a straight line which one is quicker?...

iv got a mate with a audi 1.8t who is shooting his mouth off, saying VTSs are slow as ferk etc etc... i said theyre not ...

what would happen in a straight line though because im not racing him, street racing is for noobs but i would like to know

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Summary.aspx?model=44, http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Summary.aspx?model=127 VTS is slightly quicker off the mark but slower top speed thats if he aint got the Quattro

love how in a power question you mention the dents

yeah LOL!

no grille on the front bonnet dent massive one in middle as if he hit a post slightly, door dented, colour fading i think and horrible shape...

standard alloys too ftl... and

he said saxos are slow cardboard boxes, he'll piss over any saxo..., and that i couldve bought something better with my money etc etc etc

im pretty sure a VTS will beat his audi as hes looking for a new turbo kit, unsure wenther its to upgrade or because his turbo is falling apart he wont tell me lol

hes got A3

dynebaruk
21st July 2008, 15:29
Accoring to Parkers..

The Audi will do 0-60 in 7.3/ 7.9/ 8.9 seconds depending on which A3 1.8T it is, with a top speed of 135 to 140mph.

Saxo vts will do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 127mph.

So unless your mates got the A3 1.8T quattro you'll beat him to 60 by 0.2 of a second, although it depends on the drivers, mods etc.

dont they have the same 1.8t engine as the golf gti's? 150bhp and slow lol

i vote vts tbh unless its had mods then it could beat u as its a tuneable engine.

dannygti

they are 180bhp and arent that quick really, but neither are standard vts's..
i have beaten one very comfortably before.

i'v seen this race in action. standard for strandard, vts beat of line, audi caught up bout 3/4th gear but was very close.

TBH having extensively driven both VTS and VAG 1.8 20v Turbo engines, I'd imagine a VTS would easily be the quicker sprinter up to legal speeds. Into 3 figures it would be nothing in it and the Audi is slightly better top-end. In 150 form they're not all that quick, but have decent low down muscle.

I'd put my money on a VTS tbh, although only if the audi was 150bhp and no-more (their engines are soo easy to tune its ridiculous)

Vts to win to the legal limit,

After legal limit turbod bigger engine eventually says bye in straightline, corners involved id say easily the S

If its been modded im sure it will eat the s alive

Power to weight says you'll win... if his is the 150bhp one.

If it's chipped, you're not going to win.

If the road has a corner, you will win.

this ''race'' called off due to the audis bootom end on the engine being dead

audi is finished lol

Zach
18th August 2008, 15:26
Ah, the Audi's are quite fast.

I was preying on a 1.8t in my 205 1.9 GTI at a Brands Hatch track day. Had him in corners, but took a few laps to get the opportunity to over take him. Finally got around him out of clearways in the end though.

But that's the joy of track, corners..

I was all over Porsches, BMW M3s+M5s, MR2 Turbos etc into Clearways, Druids and the Graham Hill corner, but then they all vanished when it came to the straights.

Track reallys proves a cars potential tbh.

update

dented audi had a new engine, behold a race...

standing start to the duelc and roundabout... beat the audi by 7 car lengths roughly... to 100mph then it stayed about the same...

he had on his msn nickname 16v for gays... etc etc so when i got back to the ''chav place where everyone hangs out''

i shot my mouth off about how much i beat him by and he didnt come back just went off in a mood aww poor him haha

summary - VTS will beat audi 1.8t 20v easily to 100ish very very easily even if he has a head start

Im not stupid enough to think my car is better than a VTS i just didn't want to pay that much insurance and put up with the lower mpg the vts has. But i'd love one!

Always the old saying 'i don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning' lol

Its strange how 'normal' people on the street think the vtr is the faster version of the sax though
