a foam lance for pressure washer or gilmour foam gun

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gilmour-foamaster-II-foam-gun_W0QQitemZ320275274380QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3 20275274380&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

i use a gilmour although i do have a lance but gilmour is easier to set up, i usually put about a cm in the bottle, and add a bit of megs shampoo fill the rest with water, great foam also smells nicer with the shampoo in as snow foam on its own stinks although there is this available now

is the gilmour one the one that goes onto a pressure washer or just a normal hose?

autobrite are selling a new attachment on the foam lance that ditches the crappy brass connector after too many people had issues with it flying off the handle and things so theres a new black plastic connector for karchers connections

Some people on detailing forums suggest the Gilmour lance is inferior to a PW as it gives less of a 'foamy' covering when..foaming. I would imagine it's down to the water pressure (stating the obvious I know) - and the mix of foam:water.

How do you find it Pred? The simple solution would be to use a higher concentration I imagine, but I bagged a bargain PW for £50 ;)

People stand a few feet back from the car, and start using a low pressure/light spray to begin covering the car. They can then crank up the pressure to see what gives the best covering; if you start with a high pressure you could cover everything but the car and thus waste your products.

Predator's right - I've read it's about 1cm of suds then the option of adding a car shampoo to the mix (0.5cm) then top up with warm water.

I'm investing in some ValetPro pH Neutral Foam from CleanYourCar - have heard good things about it and from pictures, it leaves a lovely covering of the white stuff without the need of extra shampoo.

Gilmour does it's job perfectly i've used it on several occasions. As long as the suds are soaking into the dirt it will do it's job perfectly. Also when topping up it doesn't matter if it's scalding hot water cold or warm at the end of the day its attached to a mains (Hose) So it's pumping through cold water all the time. Gilmour ftw! :y:

Perhaps it's a hit and miss job then, but I didn't say it doesn't work; just that a PW is really the best thing to use for snow-foaming. Everyone seems to use warm water - I've not looked at the links so don't know if it has a detergent bottle; if it does then you raise a valid point as the cold water from a hose would mix with the warm water in the bottle.

Back before the foamlance was in production and being sold the only thing avaliable was the gilmour. It was only good if you had a good water pressure coming out of the hose otherwise it just dribbles out of the end.

I have hot and cold water for my hose, great in winter, no cold fingers!

only reason i use the gilmour more because of the ease of setting it up tbh, pressure washer takes a bit longer to set up, although i will be using i prior to pc'ing the car for sure

tbh gilmour gun is quite good and gives off good foam, its all about the ratio of water to concentrate though, a little bit of shampoo in does help a bit, actually i do need some more snow foam soon

Pred, you don't even use a gilmour. Your car was filthy and full of swirls yesterday.

Definately true it is about the conc of soluton, i mix mine a little stronger than mentioned above in this thread, and then put it on the lowest setting.

At the moment i would prefer a gilmour as its such a ball ache getting on and off the pressure washer i just leave it on there! Could do with a link to that plastic converter.
