View Full Version : Wheels/steering wheel vibrating, varying wheel bolts

Just bought some VTR alloys for my saxo, took my old ones off, and realised all front wheel bolts were shorter with a tapered end, and the rears were longer, and flat at the top...

I put the new wheels on with the different bolts, and felt vibrating in the steering wheel, almost like a wobbling. The bolts still seem tight, but im worried the wheels might come off...

Can anyone help?

wheels need ballancing.

Will it be ok if it just needs balancing? ie can it wait... is it dangerous driving whilst it's like this you reccon?

yes I would say so asp. at high speeds (motorway)
saying that sometimes the shaking does go away when you reach a certain speed. but its totaly up to you for the sake of a few quid I would get them done as i said before it could be the tyre walls.

They're pretty much brand new tyres, so could it still be tyre walls?

my VTR wheels had a flat head with a slight taper in the middle of the bolt. My VTS wheels have flat seated head and my 14" steels have tapered bolts. Make sure your using the correct bolts, otherwise they will slowly work themselves loose.

It could be a number of things to be honest.
but my money is on the ballancing.

ok mate, iv gotta find out which of the two different types, are the correct ones..

my rear wheels are held on with long flat head bolts, whereas the front (the ones which seem to be wobbling/vibrating) are held on with shorter, tapered end bolts and i fear these are wrong. I hope this is the case, and its just a case of changing for the correct bolts, otherwise i may be looking for more expensive options.

it worth putting two of each in each wheel? or is that only gonna make it worse lol

nah they weren't tht helpful tbh, they saw i was quite young and just kinda looked down on me lol, but i think he said the first one wasnt out too much, but saying tht they put shit loads of weights on, so looks like they were!
