Yesterday I began to hear a grinding noise from the driver's side arch when i dropped off the revs.

Am I right in thinking its the brake caliper thats siezed or something along those lines?

Rep given for decent input.

cheers

Does it sound worse when you're braking?Check to make sure that theres plenty left on the pad itself if it sounds like metal against metal. you might have something caught between the pad and the disc too.

Jack the side of the car up securely on the side where u hear the noise from.

Grip the roadwheel top and bottom and push the top / pull the bottom, DONT push or pull the car off the jack!!!

Any noticeable free play will indicate a worn wheel bearing.

If there is no free play it may be the driveshaft or CV joint, these usually give off a clacking sound when turning a tight corner to that side tho.

Try freewheelin and dipping the clutch pedal, does that stop the noise? If so its a diff problem, the one I had that on needed a new diff and clutch, caused by racing starts by the previous owner.

yes sounds like it could be bearing, shaft or maybe cv if it clunks when you turn

Nah it doesn't clunk when I turn, its just a steady grinding noise when Im freewheeling (clutch not down)

Its hard to say Yes or No really, it could be bearings breaking up or just noisy, if they are breaking up sudden complete failure can occur making the damage more expensive possibly, if it just a grumbling bearing then it may be OK for a while, safest to just get the thing done, not cheap tho...!
