Well today i changed the coolant temperature sensor, and seems to have improved revving up and down a bit. But still doing it randomly :(

Any other ideas on what it could be, and how i would go about doing it? Unlike other problems it doesnt seem to idle too badly, maybe a bit high.

Cheers

Oh and before anyone mentions i did check that sticky :)

And going on other threads it could be ICV?

Any ideas on how to clean it and where it is located lol

Here we go mate. its the black box on the side of the throttle body

I'd also try cleaning out the throttle body with some wynns carb and injector cleaner. its great shit!

Bump :( anyone? Tried to find the ICV today but still couldnt find it. Anyone got an exact location of where it is, because on the pic above I just seem to have a box held on by 3 screws with a plug going into it.

Please help :)

Is it just revving randomly or is the car juddering as well?

If its just the revs then icv is probably the problem

I think that what they are saying is you need to replace it? but not sure

Yeah, ebay search for saxo idle control valve brings up some looking exactly the same.

Wonder if this problem could be to do with my exhaust blowing like a slag?

Oh yeah and I should probably mention it revs up and down whilst moving, like holds on to the revs in gear sometimes and accelerates, or just when I put the clutch down it occasionally revs up and down....

I'd personally use Wynns Carb and Injector Cleaner. Its really good stuff at £4.99 from Halfords a tin. Blasts all the shit away with ease. I'd try cleaning up the injectors too if i were you. If you unclip the throttle body give it a squirt in there and also while engine is running give it a couple of blasts through (not too much though other wise car will stall).

Edit, looking at that pic again, it looks liek theres fluid leaking out from the join on the throttle body. when you put it back on make sure the seals are ok other wise that might affect it :y:

when mine was revving on its own the problem was the throttle cable itself. Because of the tight corner it take when it comes out of the bulkhead the cable was getting trapped in the plastic sheeving. Just disconnected the cable from the throttle housing and sprayed wd40 down it, And it has never done it since.

my car when idleing reved up and down and also recenlt when accelerating hard it was very juddery. Went to get a diagnostic, turned out the coil pack was broken and 1 and 4 pistons werent working well so my 60 bhp car was acting like a 30 bhp car. Got a new coil pack and now much more power (in relation to before) and it idles smoooth. Check the coil pack is my advice

you have a jubilee clip on top of the air box and also the one pictured on top here. undo them and that whole top bit will come off. all u need is a phillips screwdriver.

cheers for the rep btw..

Cleaned the throttle body and injectors, took car for a spin, done the revving once only for about 30 secs, then on way back not at all. Feels much better to drive, the revving might have been it working through that time.

So fingers crossed :)

if it accelarates the car for you, it will be the throttle position sensor

you can clean the ICV with, halfords will sell, brake cleaner, which will be the best thing

could also be o2 sensor

these wont be to do with your exhaust blowing, that will be seperate mate

Cheers bud will see how it goes, ill add you if this doesnt work :)

Meh still doing it? What should I do next? :(

I think I have the same problem!

Seems to idle badly sometimes but not all the time & sometimes feels abit flat
(abit of a slutter) when driving but then kicks in shortly afterwards.

Do you think this is the same problem & I should give my Idle Control Value a clean out 2?

Mardgee

mine does it, my mates does it and my other mates does it, does it really matter about this?

josfurio

So it a common problem then
