View Full Version : Squealing/Screeching Noise

Basically as soon as I turn my engine on in the mornings, for the first 5-10 minutes theres a kinda squealing/screeching noise coming from the front of the car.

I'm guessing this is probably the fan belt? (Cam belt was changed only a few thousand miles ago I believe)

I have been told to tighten this on the Alternator.

Can someone please confirm this. Also I'm guessing this should be done when the engine is cold.

OR... is it just easier getting a new belt, apparently there not that expensive.

Cheers,
Colin.

Might as well just put a new belt on and re-adjust it mate for the sake of a few quid :y: (Dependant on how old it is obviously...)

You have 3 bolts you need to loosen to take the old off and new on then just need to pull it down (or up, i cant remember) and and tighten up again...don't over tighten though as you'll knacker the bearings :y:

Cheers mate,

Thought it would have been £20... only £4 for a "v belt" or £10 for some other one but they said a V Belt is the most common.

Is it alright to do it if the engine is warm or do I have to do it when its cold?
May sound like a silly question but if you don't ask you will never know.

mine does the same on my vts doin my head as i dont think its the fan belt because you can tel wen its the fan belt gets louder wen u rev the engine. mine also makes a squeeling noise squeels wen i go to turn the wheel to pull away or if i push both electric window switches at the same time makes the same squeeling noise its so weird.
