The stereo in my vts in completely standard and is, quite frankly, a load of garbage.
Now I dont want to put 6 x 9's in or a sub in the boot etc etc. Al i want is to replace the standard setup with something with a bit of grunt.
What reccomendations can people make as to what i can do to improve the sound?
cheers guys

I know what your saying...
I have read a few pages on here saying not to do the 6 x 9 thing but I did today because I couldntn't put up with it anymore.
I am happy and now I can listen to my mp3 player at a 15 volume on standard radio without it been pantz.

yeah i understand that, my personal choice is not having them. I was asking for alternative ideas.
What size are the door speakers???
badasssaxo

yep, front are 13cm, rear are 10cm.
If I just buy direct replacement components would they offer any sort of benefit or would I need to amplify them ???

depends on the wattage but ive heard component speakers are good

may just take a jigsaw to the speaker pods and fit 7 x 10's all the way round. That would be quite funny i reckon.

first thing i'd look at doing is get rid of the stock head unit, sound'll improve massively.
you'd get away with new components on they're own since the head unit amplifies them, but running off a proper amp gives a much clearer, and more tunable, sound.
door speakers wont give too much bass tho so wont get as full a sound as i'd look for.

Ive just been looking around in the wiring and stuff. Just found some cable under the boot cover.
There is a red fused power lead coming from the battery in the engine bay and a blue monitor cable going to the ISO plugs for the head unit.
The two cables go to the back of the car where they split into two sets of speaker wire with a 4 plug adaptor.
What could the previous owner have been using in the boot?? An active sub?? Amp and speakers ??
What do you lot reckon??

I put a new HU in and fitted some comps in the front. I'm happy with it, music sounds great and is easily loud enough when driving.
I'll try and find my thread as i covered pretty much every option and it seems like you're in the same predicament as me.

nice thread cheers.
There are some speaker wires already in the boot that the previous owner must have put in.
Im gonna see if they actually work first and all i need to do then is stick some parcel shelf speakers in and im set.
thanks for the advice.

Last page of the thread has final specs and some pictures.
I didn't amp them.

change of plan. The previous owner has fitted an amp inside the passenger side rear door card!!! It feeds two sets of speaker wires into the boot, so i may as well use them.
Best 6 x 9's or 7 x 10's I can get for under 30 squids ?????? anyone ???

The best thing you can do is work towards the basic system of amped front components and a sub in the boot.
ive got pioneer 6x9s and i love them they sound awesome out of my expensive pioneer head unit, yes many people say dont have them but its down to personal choice dont be a sheep
You clearly haven't heard a proper system, there are no positive reasons to having 6x9s in the rear shelf (unless the system doesn't use a sub), the only reason why people have them is because they've seen others with them, so who's the sheep.
A head unit pushes out roughly 4 x 18w, no speaker will ever sound awesome off of that little power, they might sound good to you but once you've heard a system with a decent front set-up you'll change your opinion.
What size are the door speakers???
They're 5.25"
If I just buy direct replacement components would they offer any sort of benefit or would I need to amplify them ???
Components run from the head unit will most probably sound quieter than the standard speakers because they're designed to be run off of more power than a head unit can provide, so as above the best option is amped components, but if you have no intentions of amping the fronts then i'd suggest a set of 5.25" co-axial speakers as they don't require as much power to get them moving.
door speakers wont give too much bass tho so wont get as full a sound as i'd look for.
Depends what speaker, how much power they're being provided and how they're installed/set-up.
Or even components. Are they any good fitted in the parcel shelf???
No speaker that plays non-bass frequencies are good when fitted in the rear of a car.

CSVTR I apreciate all the advice.
Im going to put 6 x 9's in a stealth shelf purely because the wires are already there. Plus they are amped as well which is a bonus.
I have no plans for a sub either.
So that brings me to my previous question. Which 6 x 9's are good value for money????

there arent any good 6x9s lol
does your amp have a "lpf" setting on it?
if so, put it on when your running 6x9s

Ok then I get that you REALLY dont like 6 x9's at ALL! :clapping:
For people that do like them can somebody just reccomend a decent pair for under 30 squids.

What Ashley's saying is there really are no decent 6x9s, especially for under £30 so if you choose to have them you may aswell go to halfords and listen to the ones on show and choose for yourself.
But 1 bit of advise is build 2 boxes under the shelf to enclose the 6x9s, you'll get a better bass response that way and also make sure you have the LPF (Low Pass Filter) is set correctly so that the amp only allows bass frequencies through to the speakers.
If I had to choose a set then the GZ Iridium (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ground-zero-iridium-gzif-6904-p-6617.html) series 6x9s would be my 1st choice for under £30.

I wouldnt even consider putting 6x9's in the parcel shelf mate! If you were to enclose them in a small box then they would sound "okay". Nothing more though.
I installed a pair of these JBL 6x9's (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto937-p-5125.html) in my missus' fiesta. I built them into the front doors and they sound alright for what she wants. Better than any other application ive heard anyway!
