View Full Version : News : Thread prefixes released.

All,

Continuing with some of the modifications made to the community last weekend, I have now setup a number of thread prefixes, which can be selected when constructing a forum post. The thread prefix selection box is shown to the left of the thread title edit window, when preparing your new thread.

I've added a couple of 'useful' prefixes. If you think of others and the admin team agree they would be beneficial, then they can be added too ;)

The prefixes should NOT be used for every thread posted, as that will defeat the object of trying to make some posts stand out.

Please dont abuse this feature - it can be removed quicker than it took to implement :P

Views/opinions... bring it on. :A:

If ALL of your threads were SPAM, then you could have a case to use it on every thread...

Hmmm, wait a minute...

Well, TBH not every thread is going to be 'important' or 'news', etc... and if you tagged every thread posted, then people will quickly learn to ignore the prefix... which would mean it would be pointless, and therefore would be removed.

I see the mod's making use of the 'spam' one quite a bit for threads which don't require deletion, but could do with letting people know theyre not necessarily worth reading :P

Generally people should use the 'NSFW' prefix, as they would currently type it, for 'legal' threads, which may be a little unsuitable for people at work. ;)

just because they are new it doesnt mean we need 40 threads 'testing' them.

Furio_Rob

Not Safe For Work

Attention Seeking Whore

Also good idea with the prefixes, hope it doesn't get over-used or as said, or it won't make threads that are 'Important' for example, any more noticeable. :y:

its the spam and question one that will be

EVERY thread in general chat will now be spam

and EVERY one in problems/queris will be question

but we'll see, still a really good idea :y:

Feel free to 'test' them within the test forum ;)

Very good idea Simo, just used it myself! :D

Not to sound rude, but I think this addition is pretty pointless. It's fairly obvious what a thread is regarding without having highlighted prefixes cluttering the forums up.

Opinion noted... but if it was pointless, I wouldnt have released it.

If used responsibly, it will be of use. The moderating team will ensure its used responsibly.

as i said in that other thread, its not meant to be used on every thread cos then it would be pointless

Its really hard to find the thread you want when you search, due to all the threads and just a load of crap tbh

Pointless was a bit harsh, can you briefly explain the advantages of having the prefix's? I initially thought it was to just label the thread better but it appears not...

I did think and do think it's still a good idea, however it's starting to make the forums look cluttered now I think.

Just my opinion :)

I think they are already being abused.

Forum is gonna look like a rainbow soon, I liked everything plain and simple.

Luke

I agree Robb.

Probably novelty will wear off, I know I used one earlier but I didn't realised until I posted the thread lol. I think it just looks cluttered...

Annoys me to be honest, give me the option to have them turned on or off..

Mystic

...What you really need are better thread naming conventions and more keywords being used in the guide threads.

e.g. the thread title could be:

How To: wire angel eyes

...

27th of August 2007, i knew i was right all along ;)

yes they look shit. hurts my poor eyes. there should just be a couple like important etc

AdamH
4th August 2008, 21:35
when i logged on this morning i thought it was a okay idea.. (i only saw the question one)

now people are using it nearly every topic its going to get annoying,

specially as in the tech section most of them are questions..

i agree with the above use them for important matters etc but the spam one is pointless and so is the question one

Simo
4th August 2008, 22:01
Removed a couple... personally think people would stop abusing after a few days, but lets see how things go now.

I may change the permisisons and functionality a little...
