anyone on here own one? me and the boyf are seriously thinking about getting one soon as we have just moved into our house. we have researched them and they seem like brilliant dogs. absoloutely gorgeous! i know there have been a few incidents where akitas have attacked children and this is a worry but i put this down to the owners not knowing how to look after and raise these dogs. they cost alot of money but i think it would be worth it as they are loyal pets.

Sterotype about dogs attacking people ftg...

We have an American Bulldog and people turn their nose up at them, My dog would shit it's self if a cat looked at it tbh

It's all about how you bring them up IMO

not really into little dogs to be honest. i'd like a dog that is gonna protect us or scare away burglars etc. trying to get a pic up but forgot photobucket password.

When we visited Canada, our neighbours were raising a family of pure white huskys, was awesome. They were massive and really energetic, but they were so obedient, friendly and quiet. I would love to have one.

Get your arse down a shelter and home a dog that NEEDS a home

With them they tend to be high maintenance like any other big dog!
Are you going to have enough room for it to live with you?

Cousin's got a german shepherd, massive and soft as fook. House was too small for him, which sucked!

All Bull Terriers imo are the most loyal and will do anything for you, might come in handy if your looking at having kids in the future. My Staffy won't leave my side unless I tell her too, is extremely protective which is always a good thing. The other day was walking down the beach when 2 dogs ran at me, she scared them off then went back to playing in the water.

Again it's your choice of dog, so make sure you read into them, such as complaints in old age etc

Get your arse down a shelter and home a dog that NEEDS a home

What I like to see, however you'll never get rid of the traits from there former lives. My dog goes wild if you have a towel fight, then cowers in her bed if you pretend to go for her with it. Or in the thunder and lighting she starts shaking like a washing machine, bless her!

yes thats the one. we have plenty of room. used to have a german shephard. he was amazing. we rescued him. he stopped inside alot of the time but mainly lived in a 'run' outside in the garden. he absoloutely loved it.
as for the comment about getting a dog that needs a home. i would love to do that but i dont just want any old dog. not all rescued dogs are suitable. we've looked around. these dogs need homes too.

they are nice dogs tbh, my mate has a husky, and its so so playful, but does what its told.
as for going to a shelter, you dont always get what you want there, and you always feel guilty if your going to take one dog and leave about 50 lol

yeah tell me about it. you have a walk round and you see this really nice dog that takes a liking to you so you pay it loads of attention but the little 3 legged half blind scruffy looking thing in the next kennel along keeps whining and half staring at you begging you to take him home. its awful!

A brilliant fun dog. Shepherd colouring, Akita coat, and Akita body(mostly). An odd dog, but rather chunky! Fortunately his tail doesn't curl up, which doesn't really appeal to me at all.

Naturally obedient. Easy to self-train certainly.
Doesn't really require any special treatment, but he is a softy with minimal aggression.

Got it as a rescue dog with the white shepherd(a bitch) in the pics.

He is now 11 months old or so, and a great dog. Full of character.

They do fight alot though.... None the less, the Bitch is boss!

I wouldn't call her pathetic to be honest, she's far from!
What I said about the beach blatently throws the pathetic thing out of the window. Two Dogs twice her size and she protected me, one of the best companions you can ever ask for!

Again it's her past coming back to haunt her, i'm sure you've got a hidden past that doesn't always get out?

thats the good thing about dogs. no matter how big or small they are they will always protect their owner. (most of them anyway).
saw on this cop series not long back about how this german shephard risked its life to save his owner the copper. they had a big service for this dog as it was so loyal.

My dog seems to be over protective of me haha. Won't let another dog come any where near and will actually bite a dog if it starts getting close. Pretty annoying after a while as you can't go for a decent walk. Its extremely loyal and friendly towards people though, probably the best dog we've had for that really.
