I dont think they all as good as people say they are ! ive just put a twin ported sub and amp into my car ( my brothers) and its running vitually full "wack" and cant even tell difference between the subs and the door comps. Would you get better bass if the subs where in the parcel shelf ?
cheers

Yeah thats what he said... parcel shelf. Not the best idea but not the worse I've heard today.

DO NOT put them in the parcel shelf.
So what has changed from your Bro's car to yours.

There should be a huge difference between comps and your subs. Somethings not right. Have you wired it in correctly.

i have seen subs that dont need an enclosure and can go on the parcel shelf but i cant imagine there very good. I think their just glorified 1 way speakers.
Give specs of what you have and people will be able to help more
If there spl then they could need a huge rms to work properly and if you dont have that they will make almost no sound at all.
If they sounded 'beef' in ur bros car and not in urs then its probably down to the wiring if its the same setup

SPL-X subs are fucking shite anyway! The comps will probably sound much better than them!
What amp have you got? Not that it really matters, cus the subs are awfull anyway...
You say you cant tell the difference with or without the sb, but this is the difference mine makes...

There's plenty of subs designed to run free air, and plenty that will still sound good although not desgned to do so.

You need one thats designed to run IB (infinite baffle) or it will sound wank tbh. IB subs have a lower cut off frequency, with a smooth roll off but have a loss in output, so they are more suited to SQ enthusiasts tbh.
You would need an mdf parcel shelf though, or it would just collapse. Also a good idea to sound deaden everything in the boot!:y:
The likes of Image Dynamics, Arc Audio, JL and Elemental Designs all do very good IB subs, but they will cost...

Yer man, try poking the gain up a bit.
If its making insufficient noise, just wack the gain right up, same with the bassboost and filter out the bass from like 80hz. It will make some noise then! Then when it blows you can buy some good gear!:D
