as some of you know, i have recently had my windows tinted.
i went for light smoke (65%) all around and it does look good (when the car is clean).
however, we all know that the police do not take too kindly to tinted windows and they can ask you to remove the film on the front side windows on the road side.
anyway, the reason for this thread is that on saxo's and 106's, they come with a plastic internal weather seal which is located at the junction where the front side windows slide down into the door.
if you leave this plastic weather seal in tact and use the windows as you would normally do, you would eventually start to notice that the film is being scratched. this is caused by little bits of dirt and grit being trapped within the weather seal.
in order to prevent the scratching effect on the tinting film and to therefore have your tints last a long time and in good condition is to have this weather seal replaced. the weather seal needs to have a piece of felt which prevents bits of grit and dirt being trapped.
there are two options. you can either go to a peugeot dealer and purcase two weather seals for a 206. these ones are not a great fit, so they have to be modified quite dramatically in order to have any effect. you can pick these up from a dealer for £6.12 each. i took this option for the tints on my vtr. it took a while to to but does the trick.
the other option is to go to your local scrap yard and pick up a couple of weather seals from a late(ish) model clio. i think the new shape started around 1999. but i think you know which shape i am talking about. i bought four of these weather seals yesterday (two for me and two for my girlfriend) and they charged us £5 altogether, which i thought was a bargain (bearing in mind i paid over £10 for two strips from peugeot and they had to be modified).
as well as these being very cheap and easy to remove from a clio, they fit the saxo perfectly. well, they are short by about 5mm but its not something you would kick up a fuss about.
so this is just to let you know that if you have your windows tinted, go down to your local scrap yard and grab yourself a couple of felted weather seals from a clio.
