this boot build?
http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=147873

He spent a fortune on it around £4.5k include all equipment. What do you think of it? He is getting rid and i have put in a reasonable offer (as far as im aware it wont inc equip as he will using in new build) for it and was going to slowly get bits for it like another Alpine Type X and two JBL amps battery and decent wiring.

That install did not cost £4.5k! Hes got the jbl p122 subs and gto amps. I'd say it would cost about £400 all in.

Not that great tbh. Good subs though and VERY efficient!:y:

Really? He bought it all from new and had a company build it all up for him.

I could make that set up for no more than £500 fiited!:D

if he had a company do it, then it would be expensive, but i cant see them adding £4k onto the price just for labour! Lol

Well i have offered £100 for just the install.

Its all custom built with fibre glass and all been done to a high standard.

It is bloody loud tbh i seriously thought my ear drums where moving. Its really loud and pretty damn bassy!

He has got all decent wiring, two batts, fibre glass boxes. Cant think of what else he had.

The subs wont be anywhere near their full potential with those fibre glass boxes, but hey, if you want it for looks more than sound its good!:y:

Decided against it now, as i wouldnt be able to use my Type X sub as the install has been built for his setup so its pointless me getting it as i would have to fit and have built new boxes.
So i am just going to order a decent box for my type X and then get an amp sorted. (next month or two)

What size is the alpine? 12"?

mattchewone
6th August 2008, 10:51
10" and i only have one. Just too much effort to get everything for it to fit the install. And plus i use my rear seats and boot frequently so wouldnt be beneficial.

Plus know i think about it, it seems much to loose all that space for two 12"subs and two 8" comps.
Could fit the Type X in the boot and have some decent comps up front and get fairly good results.

Coonper
6th August 2008, 10:53
Well the single type x will need about 2 cuft i'd have thought, and that corsa only had small sealed boxes.

I think a slot ported would be best wouldnt it coonper? I have PM's the chap on here that makes sub boxes so hopefully he will have the right dimensions.

What sort of decent amp would i need to power it? Was wanting an Alpine but i am now thinking that it will cost way too much so any really!
Recommendation on decent comps and amp for around £150-£200?

Could i get a decent kick out of that one sub compared the that gents corsa?

Really considering getting something like this eventually maybe for christmas - http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/IVA-W502_alpine-iva-w502-double-din-mobile-multimedia-station.html?PARTNER=Adwords&gclid=CJGl3KqK-ZQCFQUvlAodxkcnBA

4.5K are his subs and amps gold plated?!

Well that corsa has got 2x12" subs, where you have only got 1 10" sub, so he is way up on cone area, so i very much doubt yours will be louder tbh. but then he is sealed, and you wanna go ported, which will give you more output. So in reality it will probably sound similar in terms of volume.

You wanna get about 1200-1500rms up its arse imo. Is it dual 4 ohm? If so, the JBL 1201.1 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO-1201-1-CAR-AMPLIFIER-MONO-AMP-BASS-NEW_W0QQitemZ300246773815QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3 00246773815&_trkparms=72%3A984%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318) would do the job for £150.

Or if you can afford it, theJbl 14001E (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO-14001E-CAR-AMPLIFIER-MONO-BASS-AMP-1500W-RMS_W0QQitemZ120288760536QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1 20288760536&_trkparms=72%3A984%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318) will put 1500rms into it for little money.

Not sure on Ohm tbh. Will have a look later. So would the 1400IE be better? I really want more bass than loudness. The Comps will do most of the loudness.

What should the box be tuned to?

Is there any kind of decent comps you recommend coonper? Was thinking Spl 5.2's unless you can recommend better. Also a nice little amp for under the seat aswell.

Coonper
6th August 2008, 13:36
Well when i say "loudness", basically i mean more db's, which is done by the subs. So in effect i mean" more bass":y:

Putting 1500rms into the sub will obviously make the sub move better than the 1201.1 amp, but there wont be much in it tbh.

The biggest factor is the box, even more so than the amp or sub!! Tune it to about 34hz for a compromise between quality and SPL (loudness).

With regards to components, the SPL-dynamics are very good, and if you amp them using a JBL 75.2 (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2910.html) they will sound nice!:D

Remember to include wiring into the budget! At least 4 gauge, ideally 0 gauge. And also you will need to uprate the big three and maybe a bigger battery.

Cheers Coonper, how easy is it to upgrade the big three? What sort of battery would i need? An ICE Battery?
What sort of box would be best for loudness? Size etc.

Thanks mate

TB3 is a piece of piss to do, but is well worth doing! Ultimately it will make is more bassier, due to less voltage drop!:D

Just buy an uprated battery. Something a bit bigger, like a diesel battery or something. I used to have a transit battery on mine! Lol

With regards to box, i would need to know the thiele small parameters in order to tell you what size box to make. I would hazard a guess at about 2cuft, and if you were to compete with it, tune it to about 45hz, but if you just want a loud daily driver tune it to about 34hz.

Would Jam2008 have the correct parameters and measurements or do i need to specify? Awesome, hopefully have this going for christmas will be a slow but steady progress as i have bigger things on my mind and draining on my wallet at the moment lol.

Is there a kit i can get for the TB3?

What would be the best way to hold down the small 75W amp under the seat without drilling or wrecking the carpet?
Think i may do components first and the on to the sub box etc.

Ashleyp
6th August 2008, 17:09
velcro on amp and stick it under seat.. holds well, doesnt make holes / wreck carpet etc

the big 3 (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-0awg-p-6066.html)

youve got the right idea though.. comps / amp 1st, then sub etc later :)

mattchewone
6th August 2008, 17:16
Nice thats a good little kit ill be getting that soon lol!
I already have the sub as i got it fairly cheap but the box and amp etc i havent got yet so i think ill start off with the fronts.

Is it best to run power from batt, to the rear of the car split it there and then to the front seat amp or split under the seat and run to the back? I'd need a fused splitter box for power and non fused for negative right?

if your going to run a power wire to the boot then split it and run it back you may aswell just run two seperate wires from the battery

if you run it and split it under the seat youll have a bigger voltage drop before the power gets to the mono amp

So run two power cables one for comps and one for sub. Should i run 0 gauge for both or 4 for comps and 0 for sub?

Ashleyp
6th August 2008, 17:49
4awg for both if possible

depends if the amp for sub can handle 0awg, most dont unless really big power i think

most 2 channel amps for comps wont handle bigger than 8awg i dont think..

thats what im planning to do.. just use 2 power cables

lol cheers. Personally opinion then? everyone has an opinion on everything lol.

I like it because its touch it will fill my double din slot, can watch DVD's if i wanted to (not whilst driving) cano bluetooth to phone for hands free, can have sat nav as optional extra
DAB as optional extra. Ipod attachment and what not on the screen. Just seems really good.

Unless you know of any other double din touch screen thats better value?

lol yeah it seems good.. most double din's do to me though lol as i know nothing about them

best thing to do is compare specs to other units and see if its worth the money

alpine, pioneer and clarion are said to have the best headunits though.. so at least youve picked one of those 3 lol :)

You're best bet mate is to do one single run of 0 gauge right to the back of the car, then put that into a Fused Distribution Block (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STINGER-HPM-FUSED-DISTRIBUTION-BLOCK_W0QQitemZ280253230082QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid= p3286.m20.l1116) then 2 lots of 4 gauge out of it to the amps.

With the 2 channel amp, you can probably put a Fork Connector (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8pcs-Spade-Fork-Solderl-Free-Speaker-Connector-Plug-F1_W0QQitemZ220214824030QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p32 86.m20.l1116) on the end of the 4 gauge cable.:y:

Cheers Coonper ill probably go for it that way incase i ever wanted to add another sub or something i could just go from the dissy box.

What i need a bass remote for the sub, if so why and what does it do? (will the amp have a port for it) Is it to actually adjust the bass or is it to do with the gain?

Bass remote's are very handy little things. They simply adjust the bassboost on the amp, so they effectively turn the volume of the subs up or down. If you have a sub like the type x, then i would definitely recommend you get an amp with a bass remote!:y:

I dont know what i'd do without mine...:panic:
