Ok now i know what im talking about...ive kept fish for 9years or so (stingrays and specilist fish not just gold fish), get some hose, or a syphon, and a clean bucket, syphon 45-50% out, get a brand new sponge (only use it for the fish tank any soap will kill him) scrub the tank glass, then syphon the water out make it clean, fill it will declorinated water (get it from a pet sop) and ur set PM me more details

looking at the state of the tank your filter is probably blocked up too :y: Clean it in the old tank water (saving the good bacteria). If you rinse it under the tap you'll probably kill the fish!!!

so........
1. Empty out about 50% of the tank water
2. Using a clean*new* sponge clean the inside to get rid of the algae
3. Wash filter sponge in old tank water
4. Replace filter sponge!
5.Add the correct amount of water conditioner to some tap water
6. Add new water to tank to tank

:y:

gold fish are quite hard fish so id just get a bucket of water stick the little fella in the bucket give your bowl or tank a full clean with a pad or scrubber must be a new one (dont use any cleaning products as these can harm or kill the fish ) refill with tap water with some stress coat (and chemicals if you are fussy ) fish back in .. done

p.s get a water filter as this can make you tank cleaner

I won my old fish at a school fair. Was a little goldfish called Billy. Lasted for 13 years.

My dad used to catch it in a glass, then pop it in the sink with some water in. Whilst doing that he changed the water in the tank with fresh stuff from the tap. Let it settle for a while to room temp. and dropped the little guy back in. All was good for that fish.

i wanna get it right as every fish i have dies within a month :(:(:(

If you take out all the water and replace the whole lot, you end up getting rid of all the 'good bacteria'. If they're all gone then the fish ends up swimming around in a pool of ammonia which damages gills/fins etc.....

hope this helps :y:

Mine isn't, it's escaped from it's cage the last 3 nights in a row, eaten away at the carpet in the hallway, and peed and poo'd everywhere!!. I've just had to tape the plastic doors up so that he can't move them from the inside :wall:

At least fish don't escape (if you have a lid for the tank!! lol)

clever hamster!
mine is annoying at the moment, he keeps removing the lid from the little house he sleeps in and he chucks it from the top of the cage, down 3 levels to the floor, then moving it back to the top and chucking it back down!

i had a hamster escape one, he lived behind the washing machine for at least a month!
We finally trapped him with some food, inside a bin, with a staircase made of books, so once he was in, he was stuck =] haha

Right sorry for the sort reply before got busy at work lol....
Looking at the algea on the tank it looks like it is to close to natural light (ie to close to a window) you should move it out of direct sunlight, this will keep the algea do...as for cleaning, you need to do the following:
1- Get a NEW sponge, and wipe all of the glass, its important to do this before you do the water change or all the clean water you just put in will get murky.
2- once the above is done, you will need to take aprox 50% out, just get rid of that (if you have a filter keep the water and read step 5).
3- You will need water treat ment to get rid off all the chlorine and harmful chemicals, this is commonly known as de-chlorinator, can be picked up for under 2 quid
4- leave the de-chlorinted water in the bucket for 10-15mins just to make sure all the crap has been removed, and then add to tank.
5- IF you have a filter, you MUST clean the sponge in the water from your tank (the stuff you took out) this gets rid off all the muck and debris but keeps all the good bacteria on the sponge which breaks down the fishes waste, other wise you are killing the bacteria and when the fish shits, he will poision him self lol...
6- if the filter sponge needs re-placing, only replace half of it at a time. this means you will have to cut the spong in half, have on ehalf new and one half old, so the bacteria can transfere from the old to new, after a week pull the old half out and add the other new half...

That is all you need to be able to keep your fish happy and healthy....must do it twice a week if not more...once a week will be suficiant...but is better to do it more offten than never....

Hope that helps :D

its only a gold fish they are hard as nails take some of the water out and put it in a bowl. take goldy out and stick him in the bowl while you give the tank a good clean with a sponge. top the tank up with fresh conditioned water and bung goldy back in hel be fine. i got tropical fish its much harder but when i had goldfish they were hard a f**K!

Goldsax
7th August 2008, 07:17
Tropical fish hard to keep?? u retarded?? just the same only the water is warm lol, only thing is you need to keep up with your water changes, unlike in a goldfish tank...then this happens lol...want a challenge try saltwater lol

My fish died a few weeks ago, id had him for absolutely years and after he died, i found a snail in my tank. I have no idea how it got in there. Ive never bought a snail for my fish tank in my life. Now it has been in there for three weeks and i dont know if i have to feed it or anything? Or does it feed on algae?

Yeah so long as there isn't 100s of the things as they can over-run the tank and mess up the water quality for the fishy. The odd one won't cause any harm.

:o I want my fish to give birth to a snail!

Nar, gold fish and snails are fine together.
The snail eats algae, it will die if theres no algae. You should get some fish.

Goldsax
