Gearnob help

Well im currently trying to change my mk2 vtr gearnob for amomo one i can get the actual nob off and the bklack bit underneath but then im left with a white plasctic stem on the gear lever and ive tryed everything and cant get it to come off. Can someone help rep will be given

it just rags off m8, or you could try and split the white bit with a chissle or saw or sumet, however i hacksawed mine off just underneith the white collar as i wanted the gear lever to be shorter, (looks well smart!!).
