Hi, i am hearing a dull rubbing / grinding noise comming from the front right side of the car when i drive on the motorways.

i never hear this noise during my every day driving (below 50mph) but twice i have been to london and back and it seems that after 15 mins of going 70+ a really funy loud noise happens.

this noise is constant, and it seems to have direct correlation with my foots pressure on the peddle, when at say 60mph if i let off (reducing speed) the noise increases, and when i put my foot down the noise slightly decreases, so its like the pedel (or speed) has an effect on the noise

anyone got an idea whats going on? cheers.

Could be a wheel bearing.Check for play in the front wheels when its jacked up.

I would also say wheel bearing everything you've explained would make sense!

Hmm, Interesting!

I've got the same kinda problem with mine.

Foot lets off, it gets louder, foot goes down, it get quieter.

The noise continues once started at around 70mph till it's completely de-ccelerated to 0mph (getting louder as its slows).

This has happened about 3 times after getting my front suspension mounts replaced, but I do 2hrs driving a day and its only happened those three times over the last month.

I can feel the vibrations from what ever is causing the noise ever so slightly in the footwell.

Basically when accelerating the bearing is moving quick enough to not make any noise, but once you back off then the pressure on the bearing is released therefore it makes a noise. You can check this by holding the top of the tyre and shaking forwards and backwards if you can feel any play then this is a good indication that the bearing is shot! Hope this helps!

you will need to rplace the whole driveshaft if this is the case.

depends on what bearing if its the cv joint you cannot replace it, it a full shaft.
If its the bearing near the block you can replace but there only on the 1.6.
CHECK IT UP.

Your talking about the bearings on the driveshaft and everyone else is talking about the bearing that is pressed into the hub, that's where the confusion is buddy!!

You mean the hub as in the cv joint yes?

No I mean the hub as in the bottom of the suspension leg that holds the caliper and disc, Not the driveshaft or cv joint or cv boot!!! If you are still unsure then I would suggest having a look at a haynes manual!!

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, just pack the driveshaft with grease and spray oil, also spray oil into the hub area. I did this and havent had a peep out of it since.

I have started to get a very similar problem as yours.

I am thinking that mine is the intermediate driveshaft bearing, has anyone heard what sort of noise these make when they start to wear (could these possibly make a grinding noise)??????

Any update with yours CraN-VTS?
