if you disconnect the earth of course you wont get any sound your breaking the circuit.
If its popping fuses then its shorting some where triple check your wiring

but i have and theres nothing wrong with it no short circuiting, however does this make any sense, the pre amp off my blaupunkt head unit is 4 channel so i have dropped this down to 2 channel can this cause such a problem?

pre outs are not channels. Pre outs come in pairs. You most likely have a Front pre out and a rear pre out. Just use the white and red from the rear pre out.
Theres something shorting somewhere. It could be the amp is fucked.
You should have:
Fused live from battery to + terminal of amp.
Earth from the GND/- terminal to a suitable earht point in the boot, most use the rear seat back bolts.
The remote wire form teh head unit to the REM terminal on the amp.
Phono lead from preouts to the inputs on the amp.

the only other possibility is that the there is a small rip/break in the power cords insulation cover and its touching bare metal. Does sound like the amp is fecked though

well car audio security say because i have a 60 amp in line fuse its not resisting and the current is too high so having a 20 amp inline fuse will stop this but as its only a fuse it makes no sense, really but i will try it,
